Ranking Member on the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament Governs Kwame Agbodza has accused the government of trying to cover up for the Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Kwame Owusu, who has been accused of a number allegations including conflict of interest.
Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah however has directed the governing board of the Authority to investigate the allegations, a directive which has raised eyebrows among the public.
The Adaklu MP therefore thinks the directive of the sector minister is not right.
“The Minister erred by asking [the] board to investigate the matter, parliamentary committee should probe the matter well.” – he said on TV3’s News @10 on Monday.
According to him, he is wondering such happening from parliamentary select committee but rather the board of the Ghana Maritime Authority being asked to investigate itself in a situation he described as “getting out of hand”.
He claims the government is only trying to “cover up the GMA boss because he is a senior person in the [New Patriotic] Party”.
He thus called on President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo to intervene in the matter and stop “creating a mess at KNUST”.
“The earlier the presidents takes the bull by the horn, the better,” he stressed.
Background
Mr. Owusu has been accused of blowing an amount of GH¢135,125 on an end-of-year party for staff and another GH¢10,652 on food at Luxe Suites Hotel, a facility he allegedly owns.
He was also accused of spend GH¢1 million to renovate his official residence, fixing 11 air conditioners.
He has, however, refuted all the allegations.
Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah directed the governing board of the Ghana Maritime Authority to investigate the allegations, a directive which again has raised eyebrows among the public.
CHRAJ called upon to investigate Ghana Maritime Authority boss. In the press conference, Mr. Owusu admitted owning the hotel the monies were paid to and justified all the payments made.
The tone of the press conference which many have described as ‘harsh’ touched on all the allegations he has been accused of.

What issues of corruption? or you don't understand corruption anyway I don't blame you because ndc don't read and if they read too don't understand. You call somebody who came to meet debt and by his competence have been able to pay all your debts, I mean bed debts they left for Ghana and has made profits and you call this corruption? in fact defeat and massive rejection is a disease I'm not sure has cure else ndc could be healed of their humiliating rejection by Ghanaians. Ndc tell us only one social intervention you brought during your 8 us*eless years before you find faults about this young government! what at all is wrong with the ndc and what are they missing that they are tormenting Ghanaians with noise making all over? what has Ghanaians taking away from the ndc that is making them so crazy? Ghana is not for the ndc to be in power at all cost, ndc met Ghana in existence and had independence already so what do you need from us? the good people of Ghana made their decision to boot you away and bring their choice so what is your problem ndc? this will never wipe away the double salary, this will never wipe away the $12,000 to the EC which $6,000 found its way to somebody's pocket, I haven't mentioned your name and he also has the guts to talk. Ndc understand the Ghanaian people rejected you and shouting and criticizing and finding faults where there are no faults won't change nothing,by today in 2020 ndc will still be in opposition! Ghanaians are not interested in propaganda, lies, criticizing everything that will benefit the people, the Ghanaian people want to see with their eyes not their ears that SHS is working, 100,000 graduates have been employed in the NABCO, that teacher and nurses trainee allowances have been restored, that those nurses and teachers who were left to their fate after finishing school about 4 years ago are working, that the NHIS is working and covering medications, that farmers are enjoying bumper harvest, that cocoa have increased from 750 tons to 900 tons, that planting fir food and jobs is working and farmers are happy not ndc sickness, not ndc thinking of power at all cost with no vision, no plan,no clue but just to come and create l000**00t and share. Tofiakwah! !! Ghanaians have overgrown that and they showed it in 2016.
I CAN'T JUST BELIEVE WHAT I AM HEARING. SO ARE ALL THESE ISSUES OF CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS LEVELLED AGAINST THE NPP GOVERNMENT AND APPOINTEES UNDER NANA "KRAMAN" AKUFU ADDO AND CHIEF L*IER BAWUMIA REALLY HAPPENING? IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS? NOW I TRUST THE SAYING THAT "THE DEVIL YOU KNOW IS BETTER THAN THE ANGEL YOU DON'T KNOW". GHANAIANS HAVE REALLY TAKEN A VERY BITTER BITE THAN THEY EXPECTED
