Stephen Atubiga, a flagbearer aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says he is capable of raising the GHc 420,000 filing fees through the help of his friends and supporters.
"NDC has a population of about 5million and many of them are requesting for my account number to deposit and contribute to pay for my filing fees. So far in all the ten regions I have covered, we've spent between not less than Ghc 2,000 and Ghc 5,000 which is even more than the filing fees, not to even talk about hotel bills and other stuff," he told Peace FM.
He said the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) should invite or arrest and interogate him if he is able to single handedly doll out almost $100,000 to pay for his filing fees.
All male flag bearer aspirants of the NDC are expected to pay GHc 400,000 as filing fee while female flag bearer aspirants and persons with disability are to pay GHc 200,000 and GHc 150,000 respectively.
The nomination form is going for GHc 20,000.
General Secretary of te party annouced the decision at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, 29 November at the party’s headquarters in Accra.
According to the party, all aspirants have up to 10 days to submit the forms.
Stephen Atubiga speaking in an interview on Friday's edition of Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', with sit-in host, Nana Yaw Kesse, he said he can even afford to pay for former President John Mahama.
"Don't be surprised to hear that Atubiga even paid for John Dramani Mahama, because the kind of support I am getting from Ghanaians is overwhelming and I may have enough money to pay for John Dramani Mahama . . . He doesn't have that money, I don't think he has that money. If he has that money I'll make them arrest him. Where is going to get that money? How much is his salary?" Atubiga stated, vowing that no politician has that kind of money sitting in his bedroom.
He added that the EOCO should arrest and question any politician who has that money to pay for that filing fees.
"It is people who are going to contribute for us all, I don't think any politician has that money sitting in their bedroom," he added.
Picking of forms by aspirants commences at 9am to 5pm on the 3rd of December and ends on the 4th of the same month.
Candidates according to the General Secretary of the party will have 10 days to go round all the 275 constituencies to have their forms endorsed by branch and regional executives of the party.
Submission of forms will also begin on the 13th and 14th of December between 9am and 5pm on the said dates.
He added that vetting commences on the 17th and 18th of December this year to assess aspirants who would want to lead the party for election 2020.

We Ghanaians don't need Mahama. Because he is wickid, gridi, power conscious and doomed to destroy the nation. Look at how he destroyed the nation true corruption, buying cars for chiefs, Mizbel, Akua Donkor, Appiah stadium and others. Look also at how his brother took the for ransom by doing business without paying the due taxes. We don't need any ***barred word*** who will not listen to the plight of his people. Bringing mahama means reviving dumsor once again. Mahama we don't need you, period.
***barred word*** and ***barred word*** people cannot be popular. We know how we suffered during Mahama ruling. Every one is aware the hardship like Dumsor, bad roads high standard of living, unpaid salaries, disrespect of NDC members, SADA, Akomfem story, sharing of cars to SHATTA WALE, AKUA DONKOR, MAZBEL and others, buying 130 articulator trucks and hide them in Burkina Faso, instructing his brother Ibrahim to dupe Ghana and destroy out water, and a lot of common ability crimes. Do you think that Mahama is a person to rule Ghana. Look we are going to insult him today and forever. He is MORE THAN A STUPIIIID
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.Mahama is lie he has hotel at Duba so he is tilling ghanas' that someone has give him money.NDC is not for GHANAs.
ndc confusion no aye basaa!! JJ Rawlings has cursed this party called ndc and now it is facing credibility crisis and many of the ndc members are supporting this john the ded goat bcos of money even when ndc knows that that john is the INCOMPETENT ONE oh ndc!!! NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU
Why insult people you don’t even know. I think it’s wrong for people to be insulting without any course. If you don’t like MAHAMA just don’t insult him you can vote against him. Because the more you insult him the more popular he becomes
Mahama is a wicked man.
If you are looking for the MOST USELESSSS MAN in this surface earth that is MAHAMA. In my life, l have NEVER seen such STUPIIIID person like MAHAMA before. Look as a GHANAIAN, l have the right to insult MAHAMA. This because he stole our money and bought 350 Articulator Trucks and all these trucks are hidden and plying West African Countries except Ghana. Ask Mahama if that is not true. I have seen these trucks myself and they are all under the care of Mahama sister called HAJIA in BOBO DURIASSO. Now this DAMM SHIIIT MAHAMA wants to come back and take the rest of Ghana Money. FUCK ***barred word***.
soon na u be NDc that make u pronounced such a wrong judgment for the election petition. now look at ur words towards ur own mate. Ghana do not need u now
Even the Executive Members of NDC in each of the 275 districts can afford this money. They are '***barred word***' rich. They have stolen all our money.
This ***barred word*** of a general sec. would not stop his lies. NPP never took GHs500,000. it was GHs75,000 for the filing fees and GHs15,000 for picking up the form. thet is the highest NPP filing fees. For NDC the previous amount was GHs100,000 to deter people like George Boateng who dared to contest mahama. Even is ndc wanted to increase the fees by 100% it would have been GHs200,000. In raising funds for a party the onus is not only on the flag bearer alone. In fact the executive of the party must strategize and rely on their whole party machinery and electorate to raise funds. How much did Asiedu Nketiah, Akamba, Gyamfi and co pay for filing fees. Let us be circumspect. THis is just a rip off to benefit one candidate. If not it is certainly a case of inflated fees. from inflated contracts to inflated fees.
