Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah, a Flagbearer aspirant will be sent to an ophthalmic optician to check if he is truly visually impaired, says the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah speaking to the Daily Graphic after announcement of the filing fees said "many of us are disabled but are not aware. Everybody is disabled in one way or form".
According to him, "speaking for myself, I am visually impaired and totally fall into that category".
Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Friday, says he is not an optician to confirm whether or not the former Trade and Industry Minister is visually impaired and that "I will go to the Blind Association to find out if his (Spio) number is there . . . but I am not a doctor; we would have to go to the hospital to verify".
The National Democratic Congress, NDC, has set January 19, 2019, for its Presidential primaries, and nomination forms for the aspirants will cost GHc 20,000, while the filing fee will cost GHc 400,000.
Picking of forms by aspirants commences at 9am to 5pm on the 3rd of December and ends on the 4th of the same month.
Candidates according to the General Secretary of the party will have 10 days to go round all the 275 constituencies to have their forms endorsed by branch and regional executives of the party.
Submission of forms will also begin on the 13th and 14th of December between 9am and 5pm on the said dates.
He added that vetting commences on the 17th and 18th of December this year to assess aspirants who would want to lead the party for election 2020.
However, female candidates will pay 50% less of the filing fee while there will be an additional reduction for aspirants with physical disabilities.
