National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has called for calm in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency as they prepare for the constituency's by-election

According to him, this is not the time for agitations as the party should be more united and committed than ever for a resounding victory during the by-elections.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he said he had met with the constituency and polling station executives to resolve every impasse preceeding the bye-election.

"We are urging all party executives in the constituency to remain calm and let us give the late Member of Parliament a befitting burial, then afterwards we can all rally behind one candidate for the bye-elections," he said.

Following the death of the Member of Parliament of the area several agitations have risen as to who will occupy the vacant seat.

But leadership of the party have asked members of the party to rally behind any body who the party will consensually agree to represent the constituency in the upcoming bye-election.

Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution says “whenever a vacancy occurs in Parliament, the Clerk of Parliament shall notify the Electoral Commission in writing within seven days after becoming aware that the vacancy has occurred; and a by-election shall be held within 30 days after the vacancy occurred except that where the vacancy occurred through the death of a member, the by-election shall be held within 60 days after the occurrence of the vacancy.”

The Member of Parliament of the area, Hon. Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko, died on November 21, 2016.

Mr Agyarko went to the United States to seek medical care.

Mr Agyarko, who was married with seven children, had been the MP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency since 2012.

The late MP was a pharmacist and a politician born on December 10, 1957 at Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region.
