The Electoral Commission (EC) has said the decision to revert to the original eagles and coat of arms logo did not cost the state a substantial sum of money.
Jean Mensa told Kojo Yankson in an exclusive interview that many of the staff at the Commission thought the original logo better depicted the Commission’s core values of Integrity, Fairness and Accountability.
“It is important to note that it is not a branding exercise. Having been here you don’t see the logo everywhere. I don’t believe that even the old structures of the Commission bear the logo.
“Therefore the only change that has come up is the change in letterheads and that has cost, I think it is less; well below GHS 16,000,” she said.
Background
Shortly before the 2016 elections, Mrs Charlotte Osei introduced a new logo, stoking fierce controversy.
Despite the heavy criticism by some civil society organisations and opposition political parties at the time, the former EC boss stood by the decision to change the logo saying: “That is our new logo. We liked it, we picked it and it makes us happy.”
She was later impeached mid-2018 after allegations of misconduct and breach of procurement laws were made against her.
Jean Mensa was subsequently appointed by President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Ghanaians happy
Jean Mensah said the decision to revert to the original eagles and coat of arms logo has also been accepted by Ghanaians.
She said she has been emboldened by the general approval of the decision to restore the EC’s former logo which was controversially changed by her predecessor, Charlotte Osei.
She said the feedback has been “positive.”
“It is important to emphasise that the decision was by the seven-member commission and it was a unanimous decision. But I think the change resulted from the demands of the staff [of the Commission],” she said.

Is it your pocket money???
Even if its less cost was incurred. Period
Please ***barred word*** wai!! so the error should be allowed to stand erh??!!Actually, you must not blame her, rather blame Charlotte Osei for the waste. Believe you me the "poor, hungry street people will never disappear even in the rich developed countries such as Switzerland,Japan andc what have you. so just shove it up!!
Of course, its less than 16000, because you are paying from your own pocket. Kwaseaato!!! Some of us thought Charlotte was unwise for changing the original logo, but for the same mistake to be committed by a successor makes the successor a bigger ***barred word*** and ediot. The rate at which our leaders are wasting our scarce resources is mind boggling. So far Charlotte has wasted more that 16000, you are also wasting another 16000, so in a span of three years the nation has lost about an average of 32000, are we serious? People are still sleeping in the street, yet we have people wasting our money and having the audacity to claim its less money. Except we the youth demonstrate on the street as it is happening in france some these things will continue and by the time we grow the nation's coffers would have been completely empty.
Les than 1600 of who's money? Your own money? Why change it if it is going to cost even 1 cedi! More than 1 million Ghanaians go to bed hungry. Les than 1600! As if it's nothing! Come and take tax and shred it we're waiting for you. So surfline was closed because of such things?
