Mr Lawrence Akema-Kapoe, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Coordinator of the Nayorigo-Bungu Electoral Area in the Bongo District has urged politicians and the electorates to see politics as a major tool for sustainable national development.

He said politics should be pursued on the ideals and values of love and peaceful coexistence, geared at influencing inclusive, progressive and sustained development, with the aim of impacting positively on the lives of the people.

The Coordinator urged politicians, the electorates and members of the community to eschew politics of insults, personality assassination, and acts that would breed conflict and retard the progress of the community and the nation as a whole.

Mr Akema-Kapoe made the call at a community engagement programme organized by the NPP at the weekend at Nayorigo Community, a suburb of the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.

The programme was to sensitize members of the community, particularly politicians, parents and the youth, to understand that politics should be practiced on ideas of bringing development and positive change in the lives of the people in the community.

It was also an opportunity for the government to account to the people what it had accomplished so far and to reaffirm its commitments towards providing enabled environment for the wellbeing of the people.

The occasion, which brought together the traditional rulers of the Electoral Area, political party functionaries and members of the public, afforded the community an opportunity to relay their concerns to local government authorities for redress.

The NPP Coordinator indicated that the small community was endowed with lots of intellectuals and the needed human resources to progressively and sustainably work together to meet the demands of the community, adding that, conflicts resulting from politics had retarted the development of the community.

He therefore charged politicians to adopt constructive criticisms that would promote peace and harmonious development in families and among individuals.

Mr Akema-Kapoe urged parents to allow their children to join the political party of their choice for them to understand that, in spite of the different political affiliations, the development of the community was their common goal.

He urged members of the public to support the implementation of government’s flagship programmes to improve upon their lives.

He said the NPP in the community would work hard to ensure that there was total development, particularly in the areas of education and job opportunities without looking at political colours.
