Scores National Democratic Congress Supporters have besieged the party’s national headquarters in Accra to express their anger at the violence at some polling stations in Ayawaso West Wuogon that has forced the party to withdraw from ongoing by election.
The supporters are demanding of their party national executives, action in response to the gunshot incident at their candidate’s house leading to the injury of six persons near a polling station at La-Bawaleshie in Accra Thursday.
Two of them are in critical condition, the party said after visiting the injured at the Legon Hospital.
Their deafening anger forced the chairman of the party Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to temporarily end a news conference called to address the incident which has tainted what would have been a peaceful by-election.
Some party members are also not happy about the decision of the party to withdraw from the election though the condemned the violent acts.
The situation has resulted in a standoff at the party headquarters as supporters most of who wore red bands. It took the intervention of some national officers of the party to restrain the supporters for the conference to continue.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo said they condemn “the acts and atrocities” meted out to their party agents and national officers deployed to monitor the electoral process.
“As you have seen our party supporters are angry. We are calling on all our party supporters to remain calm as they proceed to the EC and the IGP to register our protest,” he assured.
On their withdrawal from the election, he said considering the security breaches, the party cannot guarantee the safety of the party agents at the various polling station.
He said while they were withdrawing, they cannot prevent anyone from going ahead to vote as the NDC is not the body conducting the by-election.
Mr. Ofos Ampofo has meanwhile asked that all party flags fly at half-mast to show solidarity to the injured and those who are even on the verge of death, saying “our prayers and thoughts are with them”.
He assured the supporters that the party will pursue the matter which he said has tainted the country’s democracy.
“[We are] sending a clear signal to the Commander in chief of GAF, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that democracy is under siege; today is a very sad day for democracy and the NDC as a party cannot and will not be a part of the exercise” he stated.

The ndc curcus should advise their members to stop the holiganism. They are a party with too many ruffians, that is why i feel uncomfortable with them. You insulted an officer and he also acted directly by slapping you. Why is Sam George starting a meaningless fight? Let all respect each other. Period.
this reminds me of talansi by election.this tells me what ever you do while in power same things will be done to you when in oposition.
They ain't seen nothing yet and they thought they were men than anyone else in Ghana so could do whatever they want. You sent your Hawks to snatch ballot boxes and got what they deserve! 2020 just boycott because it will never be easy for you! we can't give our country to kriminals who think they are smarter than any one so could do whatever, this was a test rehearsal for you, that we are ready for you people ! and you think you are tougher than the NPP? NPP are sensible and they take their time to react! you sent your own snakes to your candidate's house to stage your own evil deed and came back to complain, you've lost the battle and you are staging your own nons*ense for sympathy but it will not work.
YOU ARE NOT MAKING SENSE AT ALL YOUR CONSTRUCTION OF ENGLISH IS VERY BAD MAKING COMPREHENSION VERY DIFFICULT. NO DOUBT YOU ARE AN NDC MEMBER
this is what annoys me. once in opposition you complain, when in power, they do what was complaining of in opposition. i think that must be leaders in Ghana, true patriots and once kofi annah is done, kufour and rawlings must step in with chief imam, president of the national house of chiefs and christian council leader. i think this will give it at least a non political colour and make sure ghana is safe. i cant trust nana addo for peace in Ghana simply that, not that he is violet but as president and seeking for re election, he cant be neutral again cant punish f.ool.s like ken agyapong hence a neutral body to handle that. the council of state is bogus and ***barred word***, shouldnt be entertain again in Ghana, all praise singers of president eithe NPP or NDC . is time we safe Ghana before we allow ***barred word*** unrrasonable guys tagged as "MP", communicators, party executives etc. we will get fine people like the majority leader, bagbin, it will be better than that old man sitting there like a foot soldier defending his party always at the parliament house. isnt it time ken agyapong is suspended and follows who ever else, the guy is too powerful in foolishness in Ghana paaa, someone must shrink or cut his wings else it will be like porcupine to attack everyone even the security because he doesnt respect police soon it will be military he doesnt care of hence leading to impunity
