Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, has justified the decision by some armed men to storm the house of the National Democratic Congress candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election leading to firing of gunshots.
Some heavily armed masked men invaded Delali Kwasi Brempong’s house behind the La Bawaleshie Presbyterian Basic 1 School which was serving as a polling centre in the by-election.
Persons in the storey-building were said to have been ordered down and before they could comply, the armed men started shooting, injuring at least six persons who are currently receiving medical attention.
The incident, which happened just about two hours into voting, triggered chaotic scene at the polling centre and caused the NDC to pull out of the by-election for the safety of the party agents.
NDC chairman at a news conference later condemned “the acts of atrocities, intimidation and attacks” stating it was targeted at their supporters, and party officials deployed to the constituency to monitor and observe the election.
For him and the NDC, the incident is a clear indication that Ghana’s democracy is under attack, and urged the President, the national peace council and the diplomatic community to speak on the matter.
But addressing a news conference Thursday, the NPP claimed the ‘security personnel’ were at Mr. Brempong’s resident because they had information that the NDC had transported some vigilante groups into the area.
“The NDC candidate in this election had apparently and allegedly imported thugs of Azorka Boys and Hawks and bused them all the way from Tamale into the constituency and lodged them close to his residence in Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency” Yaw Buabeng Asamoah claimed.
He added: “Upon notification to the security, because of the suspicious activity in the area and the sudden influx of strangers in the area, people in the area were naturally worried.
“We have gleaned that the security forces when attempting to investigate the issues, were fired upon. They were fired upon, and so there were counter shots,” Mr Buabeng Asamoah explained.
In his view, the issue has been blown out of proportion by the NDC to create fear and panic and also tarnish the image of Ghana internationally.
Notwithstanding, Mr. Buabeng Asamoah condemned the shooting incident and called for calm to ensure peace prevails for the election.

JUST BEFORE THE 2016 GENERAL ELECTIONS THE NPP (NOW CALLED NON-PATRIOTIC PARTY) BROUGHT SOME DISSIDENTS FROM SOUTH AFRICA TO BE TRAINED HERE IN GHANA. THEY WERE LATER DISCOVERED IN THEIR HIDEOUT. WHAT DID JOHN MAHAMA DO TO THEM? TO MAINTAIN PEACE HE (JOHN) JUST ASKED THAT THEY (DISSIDENT) BE REPATRIATED TO SOUTH AFRICA. YET LOOK AS CITIZENS OF GHANA FROM THE NORTH IN ANOTHER GHANAIAN'S HOSE BEING BRUTALISED UNDER MERE SUSPICION. THIS SHOWS THE LEVEL OF MATURITY SHOWN BY JOHN AS COMPARED TO THIS MALE CHAU*VI*NIST CALLED NANA "KRAMAN" AKUFO ADDO, THE BLOOD THIR*STY BABOON FROM THE RAIN FOREST
TERRORIST ARE IN GHANA USING POLICE AMOURED CARS.ALL THE SECURITY FORCE ARE AFRAID AND CANNOT TALK. GOD HELP GHANA. THIS WHAT RAWLING WANT BY SUPPORTING AKUFFO ADDO
Delali Brempong is the ndc parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon. People have every right especially ndc supporters can go there and support their candidate. Security forces have no right to stop people from amassing in a parliamentary candidate house. Security forces have every right to prevent miscreant from disturbing the election but cannot stop supporters from amassing in parliamentary candidate house. This is primitive and can only be done in Akuffo Addo's era. All die be die. He claim he is a lawyer but all of us can see how he is ruling the country. So now if people gather in someone's house those people will be reffered to as azorka boys and national security minister will use national resources to disgrace to this extent. It is very serious
Sam George you are even lucky, I think you should even thank your God for just two slaps. someone lost his eyes on just going to demonstrate his right about elections process. next time you will think twice when in power position has changed.
THE AZOKA BOYA HAD BEEN BROUGHT FOR WIDESPREAD DISRUPTION OF THE BY-ELECTION. THEY WOULD HAVE GONE VIRAL TO THE POLLING STATIONS TO ATTACK PEOPLE AND SNATCH BALLOT BOXES. THE STORY AT THE END OF THE DAY WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT WE SEE NOW. THE ELECTION WOULD HAVE BECOME FIASCO. THE INTELLIGENCE ON THE GROUND INDICATES THAT THEY COULD HAVE BEEN NO ELECTION AS SOME IN NDC HAD WISHED AND PLANNED TO DO. THE SECURITY FORCES PICKED THE PLAN AND HAD TO MOVE FAST IN THE MORNING TO FOIL THE DIABOLIC PLAN. THEIR ACTION MIGHT APPEAR BIZARRE BUT IT WAS NECESSARY FOR THE SECURITY FORCES TO ACT IMMEDIATELY TO SAVE THE ELECTION AND LIVES OF INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO WOULD HAVE BECOME VICTIMS TO THE EVIL AGENDA IF IT HAD NOT BEEN NIP IN THE BUD.
And which warrant did you get to go into someone’s house. When did Ghana passlaws that people can’t travel from Tamale to Accra? Be wise because you’ll pay for this in 2020. I’ve never been so sure of NPP losing the next elections as now. This is the prove that you know Ghanaians are no more with your party.
