The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante has described as 'unfortunate' comments made by former President John Mahama on happenings at the Ayawaso By-election, Thursday.
The former President while addressing delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Adaklu Constituency of the Volta Region said:
"I want to sound a caution that NDC has a revolutionary root and when it comes to unleashing violence, no one can beat us to that. It is just that we are mindful of this country’s democracy and that is why we must be the first to respect it. That is why we are acting as a party that is docile and respecting the rule of law. But if we believe that the government cannot protect our people and we believe that the government is using its vigilante groups and illegal forces to intimidate and harass and injure our people, then we may have to advise ourselves.
We respect the Constitution of this country and the NDC is a democratic party and that’s why we abide by the rules of the Constitution. But the same Constitution says that Ghanaians should resist anybody who attempts to subvert the Constitution. When you go rampaging with forces and intimidating people when they should come out and vote, you are subverting the Constitution. And we have a right to resist you.”
John Mahama was reacting to a shooting incident that took place at La-Bawaleshie JHS polling station in the course of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election, Thursday.
The shooting led to the injuring of seven members of the NDC and a subsequent pull-out of the party from the by-elections.
The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante speaking in an interview on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Friday, noted “if President John Mahama did say what he said, then it is very unfortunate because he has been a head of state, he has been the president of the nation, he is vying for his party to make him the presidential candidate, and if the people of Ghana want him again, he could become the president of this nation. And if it is going to be ‘boot-for-boot’ for the nation to be on fire, then there is no mercy for anybody. And I think it is unfortunate that in anger, such things should be said. I pray and I want to believe that he didn’t mean it, he did it out of anger. We have to be very circumspect and under such circumstances watch the things that we say".

Mahama just VENT what (P)NDC stands for! Look at what they (PNDC) did to Ghanaians. 'Eye haaan, eye kanea! They killed, stole and drove away many who had 2 toilets in their house. Now people build and do not put toilet in them. Do you see its effect after many years? NEVER again should Ghana allow NDC to rule!
"A man of God" cannot even be honest to himself! what kind of society is this? What does he preach to his congregants? Remove your cassock and join those avaricious friends of yours in the npp and let's see you as one of them and stop this hypocritical, petty, political gimmick. It does not impress anybody, perhaps only your pay masters.
What did the NPP do yesterday that the NDC is going to match Boot For Boot ? Folks let us not be blind to the reality! The NPP had nothing to do with the failed security agency at Ayawaso. I think its about time we take a closer look at our state institutions as a nation - Whenever a party is in opposition it becomes an enemy to our state institutions - this has been like this since our 4th republic so where from this sudden loud cry of hypocrisy ?
WHEN NANA ADDO SAID ALL DIE BE DIE DID YOU SPEAK! ***barred word***
THIS MAN IS MAKING THE CHRISTIAN COUNCIL ***barred word*** NOW
Mahama's outburst is symptomatic of a very desperate loser who thinks he can reap the wind of their own shenanigans and ride on that to achieve a certain end. Ghanaians are more discerning than that. The by-election was one, they were not going to win, he knew it, Ghana knew it. So why create those kind of skirmishes at the Bawalashie polling station to give the impression, maybe they had a chance of winning the by-election and what happened and their withdrawal affected the chances of their candidate? Its childish politics, infantile politics. Ghanaians have moved beyond the 1992 type of politicking by the NDC and John Mahama. Moving on from that, some rot it has been reported occurred at MASLOC by his appointee during his tenure, leading to huge loss, huge loss of funds to the State. Ghanaians want to know from him, how that kind of rot occurred under his nose, and is that what he is make such unguarded statements to come and continue in the very, very unlikely event, very unlikely event, they come back to power in say 2048 or further than that? Those are the issues he must address and should address and not this something thing boot for boot something.
These days people just take Tramadol and move into their offices to make silly statements, infact if we were worshiping for man, like last Sunday would have been my last day in church unless I hear my Bishops Conference condeming the Ayawaso shootings. POLITICAL INSTITUTIONS. Heaven and Hell awaits us all
Very disappointing when we hear bodies like Christian council which is supposed to be neutral acting unfairly. When offices and individuals were being attacked they never utter a word. It the Christian Council a political party or a body we that has to lead for both. They should stop being bias and lead with fairness and truthfully. Look at how churches are extorting money from congregants yet they are not speaking on those issue but rather getting themselves involve in political bias. Prof. Asante please give us a break and solve the issues of pastors and ministers ripping people of their belongings.
PLEASE, WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS BETTER FOR THE GANDER. NATIONAL PEACE COUNCIL INDEED. WHEN THE GOVERNMENT SENT THE NATIONAL SECURITY TO THE HOUSE OF A COMPETING CANDIDATE TO BRUTALIZE AND DISPERSE PEACE LOVING PEOPLE THE NATIONAL PEACE COUNCIL DID NOT COMMENT. WHEN THEY SHOT AT PEOPLE AND WOUNDED MORE THAN SEVEN PEOPLE THEY LOOKED ON WHILE SMILING. WHEN MAHAMA OUT OF FRUSTRATION REACTED TO THE DAMMING EVENT, THEY COULD NOT SAY THINGS LIKE IT IS UNFORTUNATE. THEY ARE ALWAYS HYPOCRITICALLY ONE SIDE MINDED AND SUPPORTING THE GOVERNMENT. CAN PROFESSOR EMMANUEL ASANTE TELL WHAT ADVICE HE HAD GIVEN TO THE GOVERNMENT AND ITS COHORTS THE MASKED SUPPOSED SECURITY MEN. LET HIM GIVE US A BREAK.
***barred word*** council, big heads with nothing, go and warn the NPP chairman for Ashanti for his comments............I side with the former president. Call the current president to comment on this matter
