The National Democratic Congress is demanding the immediate resignation of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) following the recent attack on their Member of Parliament and some party members at the residence of Delali Brempong, parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constiuency.
According to them, there is total security failure in the country.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otukonor explained that the IGP should also offer an explanation to the party as to the identify and specific duty of the security officers in Police uniforms alleged to be members of the NPP's 'Invincible Forces' during the by-election.
"There is total anarchy in this country and the IGP should be held responsible for everything that has happened.
"We are ready to pick up arms if things should continue this way," he stressed.
Seven persons were injured after shots were fired at the Bawaleshie polling centre during Thursday's by-election.
Several security personnel wearing black masks and shirts labelled NSC (National Security Council) stormed the polling station and began firing shots in the air trying to control a disturbance.
Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama has sounded a word of caution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that they [NDC] will “match them boot for boot” if they do not desist from attacking their members.
Mr Mahama who gave the warning at a meeting with supporters in the Adaklu Constituency said, “We are not going to joke in 2020 and I’m sounding a warning to the NPP – we are going to match them boot for boot."

IGP MUST GO NOW!!!!
Someone knew he was going to get a bloody nose and so decided to resort to the old tactic of causing fear and panic to disrupt the elections. When that failed then they ran like mangy dogs with tails tugged in between their legs. The NDC should by now realise that everyone is wise to their ways and will not sit down and let then cheat at elections again. NEVER AGAIN.
A bad workman blame his tools.Just one incident which was not at a polling station cannot let the biggest opposition party to withdraw. The question is what was these stoutly built (Macho men) numbering over 25 doing at the residence of the NDC candidate.Their vehicle registration number is from the north.Anyway 10,057 difference of the results in 2016 was difficult to break. The party action was the nice way of chicken out.
Peter Boamah Otukonor use the time to fix your teeth and your mouth.NDC and Mahama are not serious at all. They should not waste the time of Ghanaians.
Wake up Ghanaians. I am very disappointed in many commenting on the violence at January 31 By-Election. The Security forces saved the elections and the nation from a very unfortunate embarrassment situation that the gang in the the NDC candidate house would have cause. What Ghanaian need to do investigate is what the gangs in the in NDC candidates were doing. Who brought such a big number of vigilantes there and what was their agenda. NDC claim that they were to monitor the election. If they were to monitor the election they would have received accreditation and be dispatched to the polling stations at or before 7.00 am. The vigilantes had been kept in the house to be dispatched all at the same time to snatch ballot boxes and beaten any body who would have resist them. If they had succeeded to do that who would have been blamed? The police and the security forces would have been blamed for incompetent. The President and NPP government would have been blamed to have failed to execute and protect just a constituency election. if this morning everybody is going about their duties freely and discussing about the election it is all because the security forces acted on their intelligence and nip the diabolic agenda in the bud. It is shamefull and irresponsible for Mahama to have made such a statement. He will never again be entrusted with power.
Has NDC soon forgotten 'Let my vote count demonstration and how someone lost his eye by WICKEDLY unleashing violence (Mahama/NDC revolutionary wickedness)! NDC has NOTHING for Ghana!
***barred word*** kwa
We are happy the NPP tugs are calling for the violence to engage the NDC. That is good. Let us be bold to sustain that call.
You can pick arms as suggested. You think we will you people to create mayhem in the country. You dare make a mistake and you guys will taste real beatings.
NDC is not serious at all. They should not waste their time because it will never happen
