The attention of the Electoral Commission has been drawn to a report on the conduct of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency By-election issued by the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) on Thursday, January 31, 2019.
While the Commission recognizes the important role of the local election observers in ensuring fairness and accontability in the electoral process, the Commission would have expected CODEO to have given the overall picture of the conduct of the poll i.e. the credibilty of the voters register, the voting process, the conduct of the election officials as well as counting and declaration of results etc.
The Commission has therefore taken note of the content of CODEO's report and has thus responded below.
In a statement signed by the Chairperson and copied to Peacefmonline.com, the Commission said it condemns in no uncertain terms, the attempt by sections of the society to link it with the alleged act of violence.
"As a Commission our focus and mandate is to conduct credible, transparent and fair elections that uphold the will of the people as witnessed in all the 137 polling stations in the constituency," a portion of the statement read.
The Commission abhors any form of violence in elections and condemns the act of violence that took place at the residence of the parliamentary candidate of the Nattional Democratic Congress (NDC).

The beatings and the shootings did not occur at a polling station but rather the residence of a candidate. Why then did you blame the EC? Who knows what was going on in the house. VIOLENCE BEGGATE VIOLENCE.
Only one by-election and you are already fighting observer groups for being candid. Then in 2020 you will cry blood.
In fact the comment that the EC has painted her face with all the paint in the world is rather unfortunate. It is just white wash,
EC must take responsibility for organizing such a nastyy election. EC has failed her first attempt at organizing elections.
You sit at the EC there with your face painted will all the polish in the world and think everything is fine when there’s fire building up because of your incompetence. I know you might be thinking of the protection of the arm forces and the police and even your vigilantie groups. Remember Egypt had a larger army better and stronger army than Ghana. Take am easy ooo hmmm
