Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has endorsed former President Mahama’s 'boot to boot' comment saying it is everybody’s democratic right to defend themselves.
According to the NDC General Secretary, former President Mahama was right with his comment as there is nothing wrong telling Ghanaians to protect themselves in the absence of the state security agencies performing their lawful duties of protecting lives and properties and maintaining law and order respectively.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, the NDC Chief Scribe said Ghanaians should not focus on Mahama’s comment but rather should ask the president to do what is needful by addressing the root cause of the problem before any consequences arise.
“Mahama said nothing wrong, he was trying to alert the president about his constitutional duty that if he refuse to protect us then we will find every means or way to protect ourselves, is that one too wrong?” he rhetorically asked.
“The president must be focused and deal with the issue of vigilantism," he added.
He also indicated that after the near blood-bath that occurred during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, none of the thugs involved has been arrested; reiterating that "all that we hear is unidentified, unidentified thugs, but they were sent by somebody to go and ‘kill’ and to cause violence, so who will come and identify them …they are all working as a team”.
