The minority members in Parliament have decided to stage a walk-out anytime new Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Lydia Alhassan stands up to contribute on the floor of Parliament.
The minority staged a walk out on Tuesday when Madam Lydia Alhassan who took over from her late husband Kyeremanteng Agyarko was being sworn in.
Speaking to the issue in an interview on Citi Eyewitness news, Ras Mubarak, Member of Parliament for the Kumbungu said the violence that led to her victory in the election makes her a ‘beneficiary of a flawed system’ and hence they cannot recognise her as an MP.
According to him, "since we don’t recognise her, anytime she has an opportunity to speak on the floor of parliament, we will turn a blind eye or simply walk out. Obviously, we can’t sack her from the chamber of the house and we have within us every democratic right and opportunity to demonstrate our unhappiness. There are a lot of things that are available to us…”
