President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will from Tuesday, February 12, 2019, give legal backing to the creation of the six new regions in the country.
The exercise will be undertaken through the public presentation of Constitutional Instruments backing the creation of the regions at the Flagstaff House.
This comes after residents within the catchment areas of the proposed new regions voted to give an overwhelming endorsement for their creation in a referendum in December 2018.
A statement issued and signed by the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah states: “delegations comprising Chiefs and people of the new regions have been invited to the Jubilee House in Accra for the official ceremonies.”
According to the statement, the North East and Savannah regions will have their constitutional instruments presented first on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, before the Bono East and Ahafo Regions on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
Western North and Oti regions will receive theirs on Friday, 15th February, 2019.

@Joe, I understand your point but the creation of new regions does not guarantee development, at least in our part of the world. There are examples. When the Upper region was carved into East and West, there was no substantial development there. Indeed the state of these two regions is still marking time. The cost and benefit analysis of creating these new regions does not point to any reason why new regions will have to be created. The ministers, their deputies, physical structures, other resources will have to be created for a few people whereas usual, the majority of the populace in these regions will still wallow in poverty. This is exactly what happened in those upper Regions created. Up till 2008, national service people, trained teachers, nurses, doctors and so on are refusing to be posted there despite the deplorable living conditions. Piecemeal structures are built in these areas but as mentioned already these structures are enjoyed by the few elite. The way forward is to create new districts which will be supported by our current local government laws if it is truly development that these areas need but not tribal identities. We have affiliated ourselves to tribes since Adam but I have not seen the benefit we have gained from that. Our children are intermarrying and creating and maintaining relationships with people from different tribes so the way forward is not to divide the country on tribal lines. Set up new districts, allow them to prioritise their needs and assist them to achieve them. That is what our local government laws propose. Development directed at the local people where they can take their prosperity into their own hands. This is the philosophy behind the assemblyman concept.
This is the man we belive in him .God bless you Mr President
Its unfortunate that the last person to comment on the three earlier commentators gave no name to make addressing him/her easier. It is also unfortunate that people against the creation of new regions do not care about logic or due process. Apart from the development agenda of the new regions the issue of IDENTITY is of prime importance in any democratic dispensation. No one wants to be treated as an inferior person in their region. That is why the whole process starts with a demand by the people who are to own the new region(s). Geographic coverage and the nature of the terrain are all vital in this consideration. The President saw the need for the regions when he met the people during his campaign tours. They laid their cases to him, he appreciated their plight, made promises and he is fulfilling those promises. Please, let's redirect our energies to things that will be of national significance!
The three of you lack common sense. When people comment objectively on national issues and it does not support the views of your party, then they are NDC. I believe strongly that you three are some SHS kids who have access to computer and internet and comment on issues just anyhow, hence does not reason maturely. If creation of more regions will speed up development then, why not create more than six new regions, so that the development and progress of our country will leap frog in a twinkle of an eye. Common sense should tell the three of you that ,there is something called proportional allocation of resources. Other regions which were not divided into new regions because they have seen some appreciable level of development, all we have to do as nation is to allocate the scarce resources we have proportional to the developmental needs of every region. We do not need new regions to speed up development.
Will you say the same thing if these new regions were created by former President Manama? In fact, it was part of his agenda to create additional regions. Stop the hypocrisy
James, Ghana was having less than ten regions sometime ago but, your NDC party came and increased it to ten(10). Stop the hypocrisy
@ James if we have cant do people like u in Ghana how can we move as a country
This is all you know. We have ten regions that you cannot provide for and now you have added six more. We keep deceiving ourselves that creation of these regions will speed up development but this just is something that exist in theory, but practically we have created six more additional problems for ourselves as a nation.
