Former Ghana’s Consul to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration, Ambassador Daniel Osei says his most regrettable decision ever in his political career, was accepting an ambassadorial appointment from the Ex-President.

Speaking on Kasapa FM, Ambassador Osei revealed that after his appointment as an Ambassador, he virtually became an enemy to ex-President Mahama and his government to the extent that he was nearly debarred from campaigning in the 2016 General Elections.

"They did everything to stop me from coming home to campaign for the NDC but I had to fight them and there’s an email trail of my conversations to come to Ghana. I could have just sat quietly somewhere but I came down to Ghana and contributed my quota towards pushing the party forward. I came down several months before the elections to campaign and by the grace of God the constituency where i strategically campaigned, won," he averred.

He stressed that after his appointment as an Ambassador to United Arab Emirates (UAE), his intention was to ensure Ghana establishes an Embassy in Abu Dhabi and also help UAE to establish one in Ghana, since most countries do not have Embassies in Abu Dhabi.

"I met with the Emirate Foreign Affairs representative in Dubai and set up a meeting in Abu Dhabi and they agreed to help us set up an embassy and also help us with funding to do it. I informed Mr Mahama about it and told him how important it will be for Ghana to have that embassy to foster strong relationship with the gulf country. But shockingly he told me that we’ll build the embassy ourselves when we come back to power in 2017, and that we don’t need their help. I was sad and it shows clearly that, that was not his focus; his focus was not aspiring for greatness for the country. All Mahama knows is money, money, money. Let’s not elect him to lead the NDC again; we have better alternatives, leaders who are visionaries," he asserted.

Ambassador Osei, who is strongly opposed to former president Mahama's comeback to be elected as a flagbeaerer again, said Mr Mahama is not a "visionary" thinker, and "lacks the competence to lead the country".

"Delegates will do the party a great harm by voting Mr. Mahama as the flagbearer come February 23, 2019...he must be rejected to prevent him from coming to amass wealth much to the detriment of the country," he urged the delegates.
