The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God and also President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Rev Prof Paul Yaw Frimpong-Manso has that the Christian Groups in Ghana will soon hit the street to demonstrate against vigilante groups if the appropriate political leaders do not disband them immediately.
According to him both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress ( NDC) are equally guilty of vigilantism and for that matter have given them 3 months ultimatum to disband them.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that vigilantism is one of the things that has really dent the image of Ghana hence must be disbanded.
"Vigilantism is causing confusion, threatening lives of Ghanaians and creating a lot of discomfort where ever they go and with consultation with our members we will soon hit the street against it," he said.
He therefore urged every Ghanaian to reject any party that engages in vigilantism and called on media houses to also help fight against vigilantism.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, has asked political parties in the country to denounce their vigilante groups to 'embolden' the Ghana Police Service.
Calls for the disbandment of various vigilante groups in the country increased after violence emerged during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
So far, the two major political parties: the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are known to have vigilante groups.
The IGP, who was speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, urged the parties “to immediately denounce their own vigilante groups to create the necessary awareness that will embolden the police. The truth is that if we prescribe a security solution to a politically motivated problem, you may only be reducing the pain but not curing the disease.”

Papa, Where is the Holy Bible did we see a demonstration by the people of God on the streets? Christians duty was to advise. Daniel could have organized his people, based on his position at the time, to revolt against the King and his command. Rather, He chose to pray and when the time came he advised. Oh, King my God shut the lions mouth because he knows I am innocent and so are the people. Those of us outside the country are praying for peace, perhaps the Pentecostal council in the country should tell Ghanaian churches to pray for peace and safety of the citizens. Papa, I think you missed your opportunity to remind others about the way of Christ. Please try again!
Have you talked to some of your Pastors having well built macho security(Vigilante) around them wherever they go? There is vigilantism in the body of Christ. Pastors using the pulpit to cheat the vulnerable in society, have you embarked on demonstration against such acts? You better handle what is happening in your backyard because all these vigilantes go to church or are Moslem s. Nobody is prepared to go on demonstration. Disband all the securities attached to your 'so called' men of God before talking about political party vigilantism.
.....or what? ain't you people disgrace to God and yourselves? where were you so called pastors when npp was forming these vigilante groups all over? did you come out to condemned it or you were busy robbing congregation of their small money in your church. You seat and watch unconcerned until it has gotten to this stage and what even makes it worse is when ndc came to say if this is what is gonna happen in 2020 elections then npp vigilantes will be matched "boot-for-boot" and annoyingly you people including the chairman of the peace council chairman asked mahama to apologise. hypocrites like you. You people think you are doing ghana and npp any thing good.
Please solve the problem of the many prophets, prophetess, pastors, evangelist and others preachers who dupe people and engage in many activities that are bringing the image of Christianity down. This is the work of the security agencies.
Go and talk to the false prophets who are breaking peoples homes with false accusation of witchcraft and spiritual deaths all over the place. Leave this to the security agencies to handle. If not then pray for the groups to be disbanded spiritually.
