Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed worry over the recent spate of road accidents that have claimed the lives of 60 people in a day.
While 57 lives perished in the Bono East Region, 9 others also lost their lives in the Central Region, with several other people sustaining various degrees of injuries.
Scores of passengers on two huge buses, one, a VVIP bus and the other, an old bus, perished in the ghastly head-on collision that happened on the Techiman-Kintampo road around 4 a.m. on Friday at Ampomakrom within the Pamdu Electoral Area of the Bono East Region.
The Central Region crash involved a Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number AS 2951 – 10, travelling from Accra to Diaso, and a Yutong bus with registration number GN 4368 – 14, travelling in the opposite direction.
Commenting on the development, Mr Mahama said on Facebook that it was “another sad day for our dear country”. In his opinion “our roads are becoming killing fields and road safety continues to be a major challenge”.
Mr Mahama subsequently called on authorities to institute the necessary measures in order to curb road accidents. He also expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and wished the wounded persons speedy recovery.
“My condolences and that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) go to the families of the deceased persons. Our prayers are also with those injured and we beseech God to grant them a speedy recovery,” he said.

Our roads were killing fields when you were president. Just shut your mouth, you hypocrite!!! Both NDC NPP have not done much to make our roads safer.
this mahama guy keep his political mouth shut. ex-president kuffour left the kumasi-accra dual carriage highway for the ndc to complete and they chose to do nothing about it for the 8 years they were in power. does he know how many people have died on that stretch of road?
"Accidents: Our Roads Now “Killing Fields” – Ex-Prez Mahama". Because of the GHOST roads you claimed to have done! After you left office, EVERYPLACE is crying for roads to be done. Where are the roads you CLAIMED to have done? WICKED & EVIL man. LIAR!
Thought he said he fixed all the roads in 2016 when he was campaigning . where are those roads?
Peace FM online did you actually read the post of Mahama. Why this headline, so that people can insult Mahama? What kind of journalism is this?
Wopana wo due bo ooo! enti se wo ankasa ebe ye den? In 2016 when 71 persons perished on that same stretch in a single accident what were the roads then? You really need to reflect small before you rush into issues and expose or sometimes even embarrass yourself. Aden koraa wopana? Are you that desperate?
The least said about Mahama, the better.
Are you sure you are innocent of this happenings Mr ex-president (MAHAMA. A word to the wise is enough.
This trend of reckless driving and deaths was very common during Mahama's time, and I wonder why he didn't take the responsibility to curb it and initiate some stringent measures. If he had done that, there would have been a continuation from the present govt. Nevertheless, this current govt also owes the nation a duty to arrest this havoc. It's not all about free education etc., people must be alive before they can be educated. Mr Prez, please wake up and do something!!
So shameful of you to put out these words. Please grow up and don't let politics switch your common sense/tradition off.
