Attorney General, Madam Gloria Akufo has said it is unfair for Anas Aremeyaw, an undercover investigative journalist to petition online to get former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi prosecuted when he is in the known that her outfit have done every best expected of it to make justice prevail.
In an interview with BBC news, the Attorney General indicated there is a halt on the case due to Anas’ inability to provide some additional documents needed to further investigations.
Therefore, it will be wrong on his part to draw a conclusion that her [Gloria Akufo] office has failed to take any action against Kwesi Nyantakyi almost a year after the number 12 exposé was premiered.
“We will see prosecution, we have made that decision but we need to have the full evidence and that may impact on what we have in draft now.
“I am surprise that the impression being given that somewhat we are not eager to prosecute, that in fact is unfair to this office particularly, because we have been dealing directly with Anas and he knows the effort we have been putting in and what we are calling for, and the fact that we have indicated what we need to enable us move on which he has not supplied to us yet,” he emphatically stated.
Background
Reports have it that undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw has begun an online petition to get former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi prosecuted, believing it will compel the appropriate authorities to make the man who was once a member on CAF’s Executive Committee face the criminal charges he deserves
Anas is alarmed that months after his undercover Number 12 exposé was premiered, no proper action has been taken against Mr. Nyantakyi by the government of Ghana.
Nyantakyi who was captured in the Number 12 exposé engaging in some alleged shady deals had already been banned for life by the world football governing body, FIFA.
Anas in a write-up on the online petition platform expressed shock that the Attorney General has failed to take up the matter despite the circumstantial evidence that compelled FIFA to ban Nyantakyi.
“Police have completed investigations into likely criminal misconduct by Mr. Nyantakyi. They submitted their findings to the Attorney General last year [2018]. The Attorney General has not taken any action on the case till date. Please help us ask the Attorney General to move this case forward. Mr. Nyantakyi should face criminal prosecution over some of his misconduct, which borders on criminality,” Anas added.

so what crime has nyantakyi committed against the nation that he must be prosecuted again? Is there something else we did not see in the video? I am kind of loss with what anas actually want. does he has a personal problem with nyantakyi and want the state to use my tax money to settle the scores for him? I don't get it. Kwesi nyantakyi is corrupt and that is a know fact. he is just like all the politicians. how many politicians are being prosecuted in this country for corruption? I think anas has a personal problem with nyantakyi but he is very stup1?d for asking the state to prosecute him for what i saw in the video. u go and give ur money to someone and he told you the things that he can help you to do. did nyantakyi did any of the things he said in the video i saw? what is anas smoking these days. FIFA acted bcos they did same to Sepp Blatter and will do same to anyone amongst them that has questionable character. FIFA is like a cult group. they will kill u before u expose them. anas would have tried to set them up if they had thrown out his case against nyantakyi. it was just common sense action from FIFA. so the fact that FIFA sanctioned nyantakyi bcos he breached the rules does not mean he committed any crime against Ghana. Anas is a cr1m1nal who must be prosecuted too. only cr1m1?nals cover their faces.
I don't think if Anas can't show anything happening in Ghana then he has know case. Taking a bribe in Dubai i think does not work in Ghana.
So on what basis was Kwasi Nyantakyi got fired from his position as the President of Ghana football. What kind of evidence again do you want, and didn't we see Nyantakyi taking money
FIFA is more corrupt than any other organization. They played politics with Nyantakyi's case. Anas is a criminal and must be treated as such.
What is all this raw tape coming from? The Act is clear on even part of the footage and the motive was expressed clearly so what purpose will the extra footage serve? It should not be an issue if we are serious about corruption. My problem is the jurisdictional angle as the act was not done in Ghana.
FIFA’s decision was not tested at the court of law. For criminal charges, the onus lies on the accuser to prove his/her case and that is where Anas should provide the raw unedited copy of the evidence. This act where you capture people and edit it to suit what you want to achieve in itself is criminal. If there is nothing to hide and other people are not been shielded, what is wrong with Anas releasing the full evidence? I believe strongly others are being shielded by Anas, for whatever reasons no one knows. It is about time he started releasing raw videos instead of the cut and paste thing that he has been doing. This is not movie, it is evidence to prove corruption and no one should be left out.
Haven’t you changed stories enough times?! We’re tired of you!!
It sad. Really! What sort of evidence do you need madam.
Ghana is joking papapaa how can ***barred word*** like Anas detect for country like Ghana, then the respect I have for Ghana is lost because there is no intellectuals .
Well I think FIFA was wrong in making decisions which lead to his band and being fined right. this country is not serious at all. Which evidence do you need again. God come save this country
