The National Democratic Party [NDC] says the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is currently "gasping for liquidity breath" and on the verge of collapse under the Nana Addo-led government.
The party alleged that the collapse is due to debts government owes service providers across the country.
Speaking at the third edition of the party’s Moment of Truth Series, the National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi said “Even the president knows this”.
According to the opposition party, the NHIS currently owes service providers in all sixteen regions claims covering a period of twelve months, a situation which has landed most health care facilities in distress.
“Akufo-Addo peddled blatant untruth when he claimed that the NHIS is ‘buoyant and has come back to life’ the truth of the matter is that, then NHIS, very known to the president, is in deplorable state and gasping for liquidity breath. Currently, the NHIS owes service providers in all the sixteen regions of Ghana claims covering a period of almost twelve months. This has landed most health care facilities in distress”
“Our health facilities are being crippled as result of the huge indebtedness of the NHIS to service providers”
The NDC also accused government of illegally transferring over GHC17 million of the scheme's funds into a private fund management company, All Time Capital Investment; a transaction that was done without due diligence and risk assessment.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we have already demonstrated to you enough evidence of the wanton misapplication of NHI Funds by the Akufo-Addo government, which is fast precipitating the demise of the scheme. But, perhaps even more egregious are certain scandals we have uncovered, which have conspired with the above to cripple the scheme.
"Our painstaking investigations have revealed that upon President Akufo-Addo assuming office, the National Health Insurance Authority without any due diligence and with indecent haste, transferred a whopping Seventeen Million, Five Hundred and Forty-Eight Thousand, Three-hundred and Seventy-seven Ghana Cedis, and twenty pesewas (GH¢17,548,377.20) in three tranches to a private financial house, All-Time Capital Limited, supposedly as investment....
".....it is this same financial company, All Time-Capital Limited which was involved in the round-tripping of liquidity support provided by the Bank of Ghana to Capital Bank that eventually culminated in the establishment of the collapsed Sovereign Bank. From the foregoing, there is no gainsaying the fact that, there is more to this transaction than meets the eye," the NDC alleged.

The men they claim they have are indeed the vigilante men to the extent that a man who cannot read and write is the one manning the VVIP Lounge at Ghana's premier airport.
OH WHAT, I JUST LIKE THESE NDC GUYS. IT TELLS YOU HOW KNOWLEDGEABLE THEY ARE AND IT ALSO SHOWS THAT THEY HAVE KNOWN THE AFFAIRS OF THIS COUNTRY MUCH, MUCH BETTER. WHEN THESE NDC GUYS SPEAK THEY SPIT OUT FIRE, FIRE, FIRE! MORE GREASE TO YOUR ELBOWS NDC ALL THE WAY. NO INSULTS TO THE NPP PARTY BUT HIT H-A-R-D THE TRUTH TO THEM AND THEY (NPP) CAN'T JUST WITHSTAND IT. NPP IS OVER MILKING THIS COUNTRY BADLY. I WEEP FOR MOTHER GHANA. YOU NANA ADDO, YOU BEGGED THE PEOPLE TO JUST GIVE YOU A TRY AND YOU ARE KILLING THE STATE SLOWLY BUT DANGEROUSLY. WHEN WILL WE SEE THE LIGHT?
The politics should be removed from state institutions and allow them to function. Nothing in this world is for free. Even with the NHIS cards, people should be made to pay something, which will help with the progress of the scheme. For instance the government should take 70% of the payments and individuals paying 30% of it. Those who should pay less or nothing at all should be kids below the age of 6 and the old people. Oh Ghana when? GHANA WAKE UP AND BUILD YOUR INSTITUTIONS.
These people know no shame to talk about NHIS
these fooools will never make sense because they desperate for power you have no shame, ndc did the worse and they now have the balls to talk about NHIS debt. I have always said Akuffo Addo is pampering these cr1minals nation wreckers by now most of their appointees should be in jail, if no body koraaa Woyome should be in jail by now it has embolden them to start fuuuulling
THIS SAMMY GYAMFI IS SICK AND NEEDS TO BE EXAMINE. HE JUST SITS DOWN AND COME OUT WITH WRONG INFORMATION. NDC IS USING HIM AND WOULD EVENTUALLY DESTROY HIS POLITICAL FUTURE. HE DOES NOT HAVE FACTS AND JUST COME OUT TO SPIT GARBAGE AND PROPAGANDA. WHAT SAMMY GYAMFI DID NOT KNOW IS THAT GHANAIANS ARE WIDE AWAKE AND THIS KIND OF PROPAGANDA WILL NOT WIN THEM POWER. EVERY GHANAIAN CAN ATTEST TO THE GOOD POLICIES BEING CHUNNED OUT BY THE NPP GOVT. POLITICS OF THIS NATURE IS NO MORE CREDIBLE IN THE GHANAIAN POLITICAL LIFE. NDC AND SAMMY GYAMFI'S DIRTY PROPAGANDA WILL NOT WORK.
As for the ndc what saran can't do,they do better...foooooôlish mammals with no shame.you people will forever remain in opposition...naysayers!!!
Apuuuuuuuuu. So NDC is not ashameddd of this? Their communicators are limited in sense. How can they bring out such misinformation. They came to mess up the entire Scheme and look at what they are saying. Mtcheeeeew
Hahahahaha. NDC must tell us the number of years they defaulted in paying Service providers. It was almost 3 years in arrears and the NPP had to clear all this debt before making attempt to start paying from 2017. NPP decided to clear your mess before paying for their regime accumulated debt. Its highly irresponsibleee on the part of NDC to behave like kids in this country. Kuffour left only 3 months arrears. Even it was due administrative work. When they were leaving it was 3 years in arrears. I am a health practitioner myself. Its just unfortunate that they are behaving as if they are crop of people who do not have human sense.
Look at the people complaining about the NHIS collapses? What was the state of the NHIS before you were booted out of power? If I were you, I will not make such comments. If irritates majority of Ghanaians.
