The bad blood between between the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Electoral Commission (EC) seems far from over.
It appears to be worsening by the day. The NDC has not hidden its concerns about the conduct of the electoral body in recent times and has openly criticised the EC over some of its decisions the party disagrees with.
A few days ago, the party kicked against limiting an upcoming limited registration exercise to the district level describing it as distasteful following the EC’s decision not to heed to the NDC’s request for decentralisation of the process.
General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, strongly believes the Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa, harbours some prejudice against them.
"Somehow, I believe that because we expressed our opinion about her suitability or otherwise for the position when the appointment was made. She appears to be carrying that prejudice and she thinks that is a sufficient reason for denying us our rights. So we think that, the problem is about her attitude and not about the NDC,” he told the media.
After a recent IPAC meeting held on Wednesday, 24th April 2019, the opposition party condemned the posture of Madam Jean Mensa.
According to the NDC, Jean Mensa disrespected their General Secretary when she warned him against laughing at her comments. They further described her as a threat to the country’s democracy.
Reacting to this in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News, Deputy EC Chair, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare said various comments and posture of the NDC points to the fact that they (NDC) ‘are rather the threat’.
“I think if there’s anyone who is becoming a threat to the democracy we are practicing in our country then I would rather say it has been the posture of the NDC since this new commission took over…we’ve seen a particular pattern on the side of the NDC. This is a commission which aims at enhancing our democracy,” he indicated.
Recounting what transpired at the meeting, he said: "in the process of the chairperson making her statement, Mr. Asiedu Nketia was giggling and the chairperson told him you are becoming a distraction; your actions are disrupting the meeting; that was one of the several things that occurred”… adding, "we are surprised they claim the chairperson was screaming…” he added.

Blame former head of state His exellency J J Rawlings for bringing this "guy" to the city.
@@Kwesi Mensah you are among the ***barred word***, action speaker louder than words no wonder you are in the ndc your brains are skewed so nothing is working up there ! Asiedu Nketiah is not a school boy to behave the way he is doing and if a political party no other than the largest opposition party has their elders behaving like school children how can't Sammy Gyamfi come out to insult leaders and elders of Ghana and they think Ghana is their bona-fide property so can do whatever forgetting Ghana has laws and the era of order from above is no more so if you offend the law the law will show you where power is ! If ndc feel uncomfortable with the EC the best for them is to stop showing up at their meetings and opt out of any elections then we know they mean business but this their uncivil behavior is no problem to anyone the answer is you are shown what civility is! these actions will never bring back Charlotte Osei neither any ndc favourite and they can't dictate to madam Jean Mensa because she doesn't think the way ndc think and doesn't act the same uncivil way that ndc act. It's a pathetic sight for the ndc to disgrace themselves in the presence of other political party leaders! Ndc can opt out it is not a force and stay back stage to watch the rest of the opposition political parties battle with the NPP and how they do things and see if they ndc work in the interest of Ghana! These other opposition political parties are better option than the ndc!I don't think any of them will form a vigilante group to harm Ghanaians and apart from the ndc no other political party in Ghana is ha*teful and env*ious so I know without ndc Ghana will have peace and Ghana will be respected as a civil country and we will move from the 3rd world to the 2nd world!
The point may be oppong Mensah appears sloppy and I am not surprised that in Ghana institutions such police service etc do not work. This is because if you are an officer in these institutions, people in power try to intimidate you and give you instructions on how to do your job. If you say no, they say "we shall see". This is what NDC is trying to do. This Oppong Mensah is trying to say Asiedu-Nketiah & co are "tried and tested". Tested for what? You are talking about a person who highest achievement does not come near being a Headteacher in his chosen career as a former teacher. They governed the country for 8 years and nothing better apart from corruption. Is oppong Mensah saying, NDC guys should be given free hand to run the EC? If Dr Bossman allows that then I know his education to PhD is a waste. He must do his job without intimidation from any party. From what I have seen, this new EC will do well. If NDC thinks that EC breaching laws of Ghana or being unfair then NDC knows the laws and what to do.
My God, we have so many ediots in Ghana ooo! So it's a crime to now giggle. This how many adults suppress children. When a child simply giggles, they say it's disrespectful and now they are bringing it to the level of adults too. EVEN in UK and USA, which is most advanced people are not repudiated for giggling. You are giving your bauxite to Chinese for common interchange and you are here fighting over who has giggled.
Since when did it become a distraction when someone giggles? Everyone does this once in a while, we just move on after it. In fact the posturing of Nana Addo's new EC appointees is nauseating. This Bossman guy talks too much. And Jean Mensa is terribly arrogant. Per the logic of Bossman, it means the NPP was a threat to Ghana's democracy when the virtually chased Charlotte Osei out of the EC. THESE TWO NPP COMMISSIONERS make it too glaring that they were appointed for mischief. It's so clear.
Someone should let Asiedu Nketia and the NDC do not run the EC anymore, gone are the days when every decision taken by the EC came from the NDC head office. NDC please get to terms that Charlotte Osei is gone and there is a new sheriff in town. No amount of intimidation will rock this sheriff so please get used to her and your life will be easy.
PLEASE, ASSIEDU NKETIIA, YOU MUST GROW TO MATURE. YOU HAVE BEEN IN POLITICS FOR A LONG TIME YET YOU DON'T GROW TO MATURE. IT IS NOT EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS AT MEETING THAT PEOPLE OF HIS SUPPOSED STATURE, GENERAL SECRETARY OF MAIN OPPOSITION PARTY CARRY IT TO PUBLIC. SUCH CHILDISHHH BEHAVIOR WOULD NOT EARN HIM ANY RESPECT AMONG HIS PEERS WHO SHALL ALWAYS ENTERTAIN HIS PRESENCE WITH UNCOMFORTABLE SUSPICION AND MISTRUST. IF ASSIEDU NKETIA IS NOT IMMATUREDDD THEN ONE CAN ONLY EXPLAIN HIS BEHAVIOUR AT EC MEETINGS AS DOING THE WORK OF ASSIEDU NKETIA.
PRIDE , PRIDE will kill some people. you the two of EC bosses, you and the General secretary of NDC who is more experience in political and electoral matters than the other. please you two musketeers grow up and learn to be humble and take advise. Fear God and saved your lives from the wrath of God from heaven.
@Oppong Mensah. Even your John Mahama who occupied the highest office in Ghana could use foul language with ***barred word*** abundance yet it felt good with the likes of you in NDC. If you know how to respond better, then go and take his position and do his work for him. The NDC and your likes were all over the place speaking for Charlotte Osei. Today, Ofosu Ampofu has planned and asked NDC to attack the EC boss and his team,...and that is exactly what you are doing. The "doctored" tape has, after all, turned out to be real. The kidnappings are still on-going as the church elder said. THUNDER WILL FIRE ALL OF YOU EVIL GUYS!!
WHY giggle when serious matters are been discussed. Asiedu Nketia is an affront to democracy. you do not disreispect someone like that and accuse her of bias against NDC. he should learn some manners!
