Professor Smart Sarpong, a Senior Research Fellow of the Kumasi Technical University has asked various political parties in the country to start strategizing on how to win the votes of members of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church.
December 7th, 2024 (election day) will fall on Saturday and according to Prof Smart if the political parties don't plan on how to win the Adventists, they will lose an estimated figure of 700,000 Ghanaians.
Per research he has conducted recently, only 30% of the Adventists openly said they will vote.
"If 70% of them won't vote, people should begin to take interest in it," he urged.
Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Prof Smart Sarpong claims: "Christians form 71% according to the last statistics. We have 700,000 of the population belonging to the SDA and I want to ask the political parties what's their plan for that because they are stakeholders.
"A typical Adventist will ignore voting activities on sabbath day but I think if they (political parties) start engaging leadership (of the church), they can have a way around it. Begin to engage the church. Let the church have an input . . . if the two parties are interested; the discussion should start now," he added.

The prof failed to tell us whether 700,000 SDA members are those who are 18 years and above or the figure is inclusive of the under 18's in that church. There is no day human beings have nothing doing. Voting is a civic responsibility, if you are to consider when every voter will be free then nobody will vote in Ghana. When Election Day falls on a working day no holiday is declared but workers sacrifice their time and resources to go and queue for long hours to vote. Some travel long distances at their own expense to travel to their constituencies to go and vote. The SDA have schools, the teachers there are paid salaries by the government. Who then should vote for a government to be formed to take care of your needs and interests. Do SDA members also ignore funerals on Saturdays?
If they don't vote, others will vote and elect a president and parliamentarians. What if elections were to fall on Sunday or Friday? What should have been done to the largest population of Christians and Muslims?
Please correction, it should be members of the Sabbath churches mean you are talking about churches that do fellowship on Saturdays but say SDA church you talk about one church.cause many churches fellowship on sabbath day not Seven Day Adventist
This EC koroaa what is wrong with them? Why not on Sunday but Saturday? They are planning to let NPP loose because majority of Adventists are NPP sympathiezers. They should do something about it immediately.
