Nana Akomea has justified the dismissal of Hopeson Adorye, a defeated parliamentary candidate, Nana Ohene Ntow, a former General Secretary, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, a former Zongo Minister and Yaw Buaben Asamoah, former Adentan Member of Parliament, by the New Patriotic Party.
The leadership of the party, in a statement, noted that these persons are no longer members because of their support for Alan Kyerematen, an independent candidate and once upon a time presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party.
The party emphasized that the four individuals' behavior is a breach of their constitution, therefore, henceforth they forfeit their membership.
“A Member of the Party, who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the Party, or who joins or declares his or her support for another Political Party, or for an independent candidate, when the Party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by-election, automatically forfeits his or her membership of the Party”, the statement signed by NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, established.
It accentuated that “in line with these constitutional provisions, it is the view of the NPP that Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique and Yaw Buaben Asamoa have AUTOMATICALLY FORFEITED their membership of the Party. They are, therefore, no longer members of the Party”.
But the New Patriotic Party has received a backlash from some section of the public who finds the decision hasty and fears it may have a scathing impact on the party's quest to retain power.
Discussing the issue on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", Nana Akomea defended the party stating the victims chose their own fate.
He argued that they, by their own actions, removed themselves from the New Patriotic Party, therefore what the party has done is seemingly granting their wish.
"Once it's clear that you have declared for another Presidential, even Parliamentary candidate, you have automatically removed yourself from the party", he told Nana Yaw Kesseh, adding that "the party needs more people but not someone whose behavior will destroy the little; one bad nut will spoil the soup".
Nana Akomea however noted should the four persons and any other person who has defected from the NPP have a change of heart, there is always place for them in the party.
"You can come back but will have to reapply. In the reapplication stage, the party will create room for you to explain why you decided to do what you did."

the Good thing is after 2024, we will revisit this action. bye
that is the way to go. people must know that they are nit bigger than the party, anyone who flouts the party's rules, whether president or minister must be dealt witch according to the party rules. it is as simple as that.
What you have written makes sense yet we ain’t talking about “street party members” here. These are core members who do understand the party’s constitution and they have flatly flouted the rules. If action is not taken against them, and they hold government position in future, they will disregard the laws and do their own thing. Let the rules work.
Why is Cecilia Dapaa being investigated by the SP and not govt being mute over it? All animals are equal but some are more equal than others? The gang of 4 should have known better. After all some Mps and Ministers who were following Allan deserted him when he resigned from NPP.
Punctuation problems in this article.
Yes, however considering the positions they once held in the party especially Boniface Sadiqque, Ohene Ntow and Buaben Asamoah respectively, i expected the NPP to have engaged them rather than outright dismissal. If Akomeah is saying the 4 expelled themselves why should it take the general secretary to issue a statement to that effect? That should tell you they are /were not ordinary members. From every indication the 2024 elections will be too close to call. The leadership of the NPP needs to be diplomatic instead of being high handed because a lot of NPP supporters are not happy with the current leadership both at the level of the party and government. Time changes, yes the NPP sacked Kwabena Agyapong and Afoko and still went ahead to win the 2016 elections because the party had a lot of good will amongst the Ghanaian electorate then, not today when almost everything is in a mess. The elders have a saying thus " it is not everything that is right to do that is wise to do, we have rights but we also have wisdom". At times wisdom does the trick than rights. The party could have ignored them by being silent. Who knows? One year to an election is still plenty of time and any of the 4 could have a change of mind. To the general secretary of the NPP, do you have your own biological children of voting age i e 18 years and above to queue to vote for the NPP to "break the 8", If yes, fine, if no, whos 18 year old and above children are you relying on to vote for the NPP to "break the 8" for you to continue to enjoy power, please think of this before expelling people from the party. Any leader who is not diplomatic is a failure especially in politics. Kennedy Agyapong's performance in the recently held presidential primaries should serve as an eye opener for the current leadership and appointees. NPP, a party liked by so many people, unfortunately the calibre of people leading the party today are to much self seeking to the detriment of the larger interest of the party. We are watching.
