It is never true that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has neglected the economy and he's now focusing on digitalization, says Communication Minister, Ursula Owusu Ekuful.
"Some people often accuse him of moving from Economy to Digitalisation and that he doesn't know what he is doing but that is not the case. We are building a digital economy...we're building the digital foundations of our economy...so we'll have a very good story to tell Ghanaians prior to this year's election and they'll testify that indeed the digital economy has really benefited them," she said in a one-on-one interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo'

Digital era
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized the importance of digitalization in achieving economic development for Ghana.
“As a government, we are championing the move toward a fully digitalized economy and there is no going back to the manual and inefficient ways of doing things,” he stated.
According to him, “We approached the building of this digital infrastructure on the key pillars of standardising individual identification using the Ghana Card; solving the address and property systems using GhanaPostGPS; solving under-banking and bringing financial inclusion to most people through a robust mobile money and bank interoperability and digital payment platform; and integration of government databases and digitising public service delivery using the Ghana.gov platform”

I have no doubt you are possibly building a digital economy, however, do you build a digital economy by bankrupting the country? Do you understand the mess you guys have created. The educated workforce is leaving the country, do you understand the impact of brain drain on society, economy etc. you have no idea
I have read your response and I think you will maintain your point of view irrespective of what I say. Your original article indicated that digitisation is not economic variable and I said yes it is. Digitisation is part of a factor of production called capital in economics hence it is a variable in economics. Second, the questions you asked whether digitisation will increase foreign inflows etc. My answer is yes to those questions as digitisation is part of the production process. I guess, I need one hour lecture to show you that. Note that there are several branches of economics such as development economics, social economics, financial economics, business economics etc hence don't reduce economics to few things you know in economics. I am not doing politics, so good luck with your politics.
@@kay it’s rather unfortunate peacefm online didn’t post my initial response with your rather dumb but self glorifying reply. Yes subjects evolve but the very basics don’t go away. Digitization aides an economy with a good foundation Yes digitization helps with efficiency in an economy But does digitization solves over problems of lack of adding value to our raw materials exports Does digitalization earn us foreign inflows to mitigate the free fall of our digital Ghana cedis Does digitization solve the burden of importation of almost everything Does digitalization move this economy to a production driven one? How has digitization prevented the dollar from moving from under 3gh to over 12 gh Your likes are the reason these politicians think they are more humans than we that voted for them. The nation is struggling and all we hear is digitization digitalization since when did the vice know it’s digitization that will solve our problems if indeed it can Then why wasn’t he preaching about it when he was in opposition for us to spare the then government or digitization only became a tool when he came to power. Let us stop this wholesale intellectual dishonesty
@@Kay, you people create issues out of the blue in an attempt to justify the unbelievable level of economic damage Ghana has been subjected to by this government. You're hiding behind "digitalisation" aiming to throw dust into people's eyes. Note that digitalisation is not an invention of Bawumia, neither was it hiding somewhere in space that he went to mysteriously defeat aliens and brought it to Ghana. As you rightly mentioned, it's a dispensation triggered development, it's the matter of time that we have found ourselves in, incorporating technology in governance and economies s inevitable It takes only extremely dumb governments to ignore it. Another one is science, strangely, those claiming undeserving credits for digitalisation do not know that science is equally important and so research must be heavily funded and outlets created for translation. It also takes myopic governments to not realise this. In any case, for a country and it's people to benefit sufficiently from digitalisation, it must be hinged on solid, sound economic framework/foundation and policies. Here in Ghana, people think these two are mutually exclusive, so they have destroyed the economy utterly and running unashamedly to the digital space to deceive the little minds that digitalisation will solve all their problems amidst no serious economic foundation.
Wow, , I now understand why Ghana is many, many years away from being developed. We have produced University graduates like Kay who even do not understand the developments in the subject they studied at the University. Economics like other subjects develop over time and thanks to researchers myself and others do. Kay, I am sorry, you live in the 20th Century where economic variables were interest rates, exchange rates etc. Listen to me, we have gone beyond that and subject has grown. Did we have crowd funding in the last century that leverage technology to raise funds? Did we have digital banking in the last century which lowers transaction costs and interest rates in the last century? Now, we have it. So your economics is limited to those old text books that we do not use anymore? I am really taken aback by your reasoning....indeed shock. You have let yourself down big time by not updating and renewing your knowledge. So many graduate illiterates in Ghana.
So in the name of politics and greed, people we thought were intelligent are now empty headed and jump to the bandwagon without any shame. Is it digitalization that will reduce the dollar rate? Is it digitization that will reduce inflation? Is it digitalization that will reduced the killer interest rates? Where in the study of economics did digitization become an economic variable? It really saddens my soul when people defend the defenseless But do I blame them ? No we are in a country where people vote for a dead person as an assembly man so what of a living person. We are in a nation where majority of voters don’t know why they vote. We are in a nation where people follow these politicians on empty stomachs I think we deserve what these two political parties are giving us.
