Prof. Smart Sarpong, a Research Fellow at the Kumasi Technical University has described as "unnecessary" former President John Mahama's request for a 'Honeymoon' period.
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) addressing attendees at a 'Campus Connect' event in Hohoe, called on Ghanaians especially the Labour unions to give him a grace period if he's elected as President to put the economy in order since the ruling NPP administration has collapsed it.
“And you will realize the harm that the NPP administration has done to Ghana’s economy. This country is broke, and so we will beg you that when we come into office give us a bit of a honeymoon, let’s put things in place so that we bring the economy back onto its feet," he divulged.
This request has, however, not been welcomed by the ruling NPP as they believe it's a sign that he's not ready to be President of the nation.
Prof Smart Sarpong adding his voice to the discussion on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme said the former President should already have a complete plan to solve the challenges confronting the country.
"The request for a honeymoon period after being elected as President was unnecessary because you claim to have the ability to solve the challenges facing the country. As such, you should have a complete plan and hit the ground running immediately after taking office. I urge President Mahama to start preparing now. I am not even sure how long he wants the honeymoon period to last. He has been President before, so asking for a honeymoon period suggests that he is new to Ghana's problems, which is not the case," he intimated.

Whether you guys like or not, Mahama is coming like kakai. Both Alan and Bawumia were/are part of this present government and therefore part of the gargantuan failure it has recorded. It rather Bawumia who is extremely pathetic. Bawumia has never behaved like a politician. He always behave like a child who has been asked a question, and know that s/he has no answer, begins to smile fuulishly. For 7 years, now running into 8 years, this government has nothing to show, except to steal and squander our financial and natural resources. Bawumia should be ready to answer the 170 questions he posed to Amissah Arthur. Hypocrites and liers in power.
Tell that professor to ***barred word*** what has he tell akoffo addo about the running of thè economy. ***barred word***.
He knows that he can NOT do anything if voted for the 2nd time. These are the signs he is giving!
@Alban Acquah But Alan was also part of the current government. Must one be president before you can make an impact? He was given a chance as minister for several years, so what chance again? Pound for pound, Bawumia will make better president than Alan. As for Mahama, he is now just pathetic.
Ghanaians have all the past political records of ex - President John Mahama, who is agitating and expressing his ambition to be voted as the next president for the republic of Ghana , 2024. In all honesty, Ghanaians are questioning the authenticity of Mahamas political agenda as a solution to Ghanas socio-economic crises. What is Mahamas motive of seeking to come back to the stage as president of the Republic, where by his political performance over the past years was nothing but a disaster which led Ghana into huge economic debt in crises. So What is Mahamas intention. Market gossiping along the corners of the west african country, is simple explained. His parties money and his personel money has fnished and he is coming wih his party supporters to loot and share Ghanas mineral resources.Ghanaians are tired of both the NDC and the NPP. Both parties have nothing to offer to lift Ghanaians out of their poverty. J.Mahama had been given the oppoortunity as a president, it was nothing but political disaster during his term of office. Bawumia also had this current opportuinity in this political administration of the NPP. Infact, he is the head of the Economic Mismanagment Team. Ghanaians are looking forward for a change: Alliance for a CHANGE: Ghanaians must give Hon Alan Kojo Kyeremateng the opportuinity to lead and work hard to reverse the economic crises created by both NPP and NDC. Give Alan a Chance and there will be much economic and political difference in Ghanas economic life style. Thank You.
