You don’t need a genius to tell you that the NPP’s influential member, Mr Gabby Okyere-Darko has really bitten more than he can chew when he disclosed his disappointment in Ghanaian movie industry earlier on Peace FM.
Following his speech, several prominent Ghanaians and concerned movie lovers have emerged from their various hideouts lambasting him.
It’s obvious that the Ghanaian movie industry is dying due to some of the reasons being that most TV stations in Ghana have been getting cheaper contents from outside countries like India and other South American countries and have completely neglected Ghanaian movies.
Reacting to Gabby Okyere-Darko’s assertion against the movie industry, award-winning actress, Lydia Forson took to her Twitter to reply to Gabby.
She Wrote: “Our industry is not perfect, far from, in fact, it needs a lot of help and structure, and we need to have important and brutal conversations about it. “But if the people who promised to help aren’t doing their jobs, they shouldn’t have a right to speak on it either”.

When I hear the government is not bla bla bla...the creative arts and so on l sometimes get very angry. Seriously is it the most important sector that has been neglected? Hell no. Holistic development of a country is like a jigsaw puzzle where every piece has to fall in it's right place. First and foremost we need to get our educational system right especially in the area of science and technology. Any country with a development agenda that neglects these areas is chasing after a puff of smoke! We often look at the developed countries and try to draw parallels. They first led in education before dominating in every sector-including the creative industry. Mention top brass technology firms and they come from these countries. So arguing that the creative industry is neglected, etc is a lame one. Pump £100billion into the creative arts and not fix education...we will be back to square one in 10 years time after squandering the money!
you dey there a f00l yoursel you dont have an industry an industry where you can't make money out off less you indulge in other things
The response from some of the creative industry guys shows that they're not creative. Albeit that what the gov't promised is fulfilled what about the content of projecting the values of the country. That's what Gabby is referring to not whether the promised items has been achieved or people are putting in much as suggested by 'Pusher'. The content is bad and we must work at it. The reference to hollywood was to say that always degrading ourselves and projecting other culture is not the best.
My opinion, is NPP government not hastening into a closely contested election and most likely into opposition in 2020. They seem to be taken everybody for granted, committing the same mistakes the NDC made and banking all their hopes on these Free SHS students to pay them back by voting for them massively. Charlie...., you have to move cautiously
See, Lydia and co are missing the point. Is Gabby a member of the government? Being a relative of the president does not make one a part or member of the government.I disagree with Gabby but he is expressing his personal opinion and must be treated as such. I don't see government doing enough to help the movie industry but that is another discussing for another time. Gabby expression should be seen as government position. Good Day.
Look some one please tell this Lydia girl that the truth is one gabby has said it right. So she should shuttt her beak
