Fans were not too disappointed with Duncwills Entertainment’s decision to pull Sarkodie out of the 2008/2009 Ghana Music Awards since his album wasn’t launched and virtually had no video though singles (Babe and Push) were doing surprisingly well in the industry.

The artiste had by then already being honoured by EU/UN/GTZ for providing the best musical masterpiece for the aid effective conference held in Accra from 2nd to 4th September 2008. Prior to that, Sarkodie as an underground artist street-battled several other artiste and won for himself the King of underground battle on Dr. Duncan’s Kasahare programme.

His debut album was however launched on the 13th of April, 2009 with a video premiere, autograph and free street carnival. Sarkodie’s “Makye’ album has been the most successful in 2009 with almost all the tracks enjoying airplay. This fast lips and slippery tongue artist also made his album visually impressive through remarkable programme performances. Sarkodie’s most outstanding programme was the Busta Rhyme show in Ghana where he bridged the gap between the local and foreign artist. He was highly lauded by most TV and radio shows, Busta Rhyme and Spliff star for a highly graded outstanding performance. Ghana is really proud of him.

Akon, Babs and the rest of the Konvict Music crew from the states made a very good choice by signing Sarkodie as their first ever African signing. It actually gives him and his managers the responsibility to truly manage Konvict Africa and make recommendations. Wow, Ghana entertainment goes global but let access his chances for the upcoming 2009/2010 Ghana music awards.

Sarkodie’s 'Makye' album enjoyed successful hits from track to track even prior to album launch. Polls indicate that the young artist might break some old records either by taking home several awards or by winning all he will be nominated for.

Polls gave the following nominations for GMA’s perusal, Hip Hop song of the year (Lay away-Sarkodie feat.Sway and J so), Hiplife Song of the year (either Babe or Borga), Most Popular Song of the year (Babe feat.Mugees of R2Bees or Borga feat. J Town)), Album of the Year (“Sarkodie’s “Makye” with hits like Babe, Push,Borga, Lay Away, More, Odo Do Me and Chat with you), Collaboration of the Year (Babe feat.Mugeez or Borga feat. J town), Discovery of the Year (Sarkodie), Artist of the year (Sarkodie), Song Writer of the Year (sarkodie on Borga ) and it goes on and on and on.

Central University LE group honoured sarkodie in January 2010 for the Most Outstanding artist for the year 2009 and expressed appreciation for changed lives through his released single “Life” featuring Obrafuor which elaborated on the need to understand the basics of living. Sarkodie’s new ram is the Africa Hip Hop awards to be held in Nigeria which he seems to be a key contender.

The award ceremony which salutes the Hip Hop industry in Africa also paving way for more cultural exchange is poised to be remarkable this year with Sarkodie as a contender. Ghana will be looking forward to grabbing awards with Sarkodie our Konvict icon and UN celebrity but until then watch out for his "Borga" and "Lay Away" videos.
