Hype Records, organizers of the first ever female music concert dubbed ‘Red Lipsticks’ has accused event organizers in Ghana of being unfair to female artistes in the country.

The record label, at the launch of its female concert last Saturday in Accra, claimed that event organizers are so biased towards female artistes that almost every event is dominated by male performers.

Hype Records did not mention names of the event organizers they were referring to. Empire Entertainment’s ‘Ghana meets Naija’ concert, organized last Friday, was a classic example of an event which had only one female performer, Efya, in an all male performers’ list.

Sylvia Nana Appiah, General Manager of Hype Records, told journalists that the trend of sideling females has not been helpful to the cause of women empowerment in music industry and explains why her company came up with the all-female concert dubbed, ‘Red Lipsticks’.

The ‘Red Lipstick’ concert, which is scheduled for October 29, 2011 at the National Theatre, is aimed at bringing together the crème de la crème of Ghanaian female artistes on one stage to treat their fans to some thrilling performances.

Expected acts will come from Efya, Mzbel, Tiffany, Mimi, Akosua Agyepong, Sheriffa Gunu, Ohemaa Mercy Eazzy and host of other female artistes in Ghana. The event is the first of its kind and will be held annually.

Sylvia said the event would come with a lot of surprises and side attractions, adding that all technical areas of putting up the show, including the presenter of the night, will be females.

Part of the proceeds from the show, she also noted, will be used to support a breast cancer awareness project. At the launching ceremony were top musicians Mzbel, Eazzy and Efya who promised fans the best of shows, come October 29.
