We have witnessed the end of another great year and what a better way to retire such an eventful
period in our lives than with a befitting celebration as was experienced at last Friday’s Christmas edition
of Ghana’s iconic Mirror Ball. As Salt and Peppa sang in the 80’s “ooh babe babe, ba babe babe”…you
should have been there!
The Oxford dictionary defines the word - nostalgia as follows: “A sentimental longing or wistful affection
for a period in the past”. The ambience at Ghana’s favourite and only old school monthly party certainly
meets this definition and often the experience goes beyond this to deliver a complete though temporary
transition into the days of old.
The SOHO restaurant and bar was teeming with “la crème de la crème” of Ghana’s mover and shakers as
the much anticipated Xmas Year ender brought the city to a literal standstill. Even in the wee hours of
the morning as the finest sedans and four wheelers rolled in to claim a space for their masters within, as
well as way beyond the parking lot of the Marina Mall there was no doubt that the Mirror Ball was the
most attended premium social gathering that Christmas night. Even if the “toli” was true, Santa himself
would not have found a place for his reindeer even on the roof top as the traditional Mirror Ball which
spun and glimmered as far out as the Spintex road all night.
By midnight the Mumm Champagne sponsored event had attracted arguably All the most hard core old
school music fans in Accra as well as from way beyond as all the diaspora Ghanaians “dropped” as we
say in the local parlance. DJ Blow delivered a year end signature performance to close the year on a
high note like the dollar. It certainly does not pay to be truant at the Mirror Ball and in appreciation for
their regular patronage, a fine bottle of Mumm Cordon Rouge Brut was presented to Lydia, Ike and
Theresa by the Marketing Manager of Pernod Ricard, Mr. Richmond Asante for being the most regular
attending female, male as well as couple respectively. “We really appreciate the patronage of All our
guests over the years and we promise to continue delivering a premium experience each time around so
we take the opportunity to wish them all the very prosperous New Year” said Edwin Baffour Tag Team.
The Mirror Ball is brought to you by Tag Team and SOHO restaurant. It is sponsored by Mumm
Champagne and supported by Starr 103.5fm.
