Music producer Mark Okreku Mantey who is not happy about Sarkodie’s remake of Daasebre Gyamenah’s hit song, Kokoko because he was not told before the song was done says the rapper did not respect him.
The former manager of the late musician explained on Gh One’s Pundit show that Sarkodie should have at least called to inform him about his decision to compose his version of the song as a tribute to the highlife artiste who died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Friday, July 29, 2016.
According to Mr. Okraku Mantey, he wouldn’t have had a problem with a musician who is not in Ghana and does not have access to him but not someone who stays a doorstep away from his house.
The boss of Slip Music Production promised to use Sarkodie to set example for others to learn from it should the rapper not take any steps to correct the mistake he has committed.
“Under normal circumstance, if he had called me to say that he is doing Kokoko remake as a tribute to Daasebre, I would’ve just said go ahead, I want to hear it sound good or even better.
The most important part of this whole thing is how it sounds funny. I didn’t hear anything from him only to see Jon Germain send me a link and when I opened, I heard my song playing.
So after hearing my song play, I said at least show me some respect.
I am the sampling master in this country so we know how this game plays. I know when the person does not have access to me or I don’t have access to the person, it is a different ball game but when the person is just next door, you know the person can chase you so we shouldn’t take this case for granted.
I want to see the steps he will make. If he doesn’t make any steps then it gives me a clue that he doesn’t want to respect the industry then we will use him to set example for the younger ones to learn from it.
All these court cases are precedents so if we set one for others to learn from it, there is nothing wrong.” Mark told George Quaye, host of the show.
Sarkodie first performed his tribute song to the late Daasebre Gyamenah with Akwaboah at the 2016 Rapperholic Concert held at the Accra International Conference Center on December 25.

Mantey, read the Copyright Act (Act 690) carefully and you'll find out that the best you can is a meagre royalty as per section 37 (which is dependent on how much Sarkodie makes with the sound, which will be almost zero) or he'll escape through section 35 (d) as a limitation on the economic right of performer. You talk too much bro
