Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications has apologized for what she says is a spin on her words during Ebony’s one week Memorial service.
She is reported to have said she has lost a vote because of the death of the ‘Sponsor‘ artiste who is a constituent of Ablekuma West Constituency.
She was criticized by people who said her comment was insensitive.
In a statement Tuesday, Owusu-Ekuful accused “NDC hirelings” and “rented journalists” for the spin and taking her words out of context.
“I wish to first and foremost apologise to the family and friends of Ebony who are hurt by the spin on my words which were taken completely out of context. Those behind it as confirmed, being some NDC hirelings and rented journalists intended to have me be the object of ridicule and abuse on social media and possibly have me reshuffled by H.E the President as a Minister, have already failed.” reads part of the statement.
“That is not part of my nature as a politician who has lived all her life showing respect and dignity to all manner of persons, dead or alive, which those close to me, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, know.”
Ebony died after she was involved in a gory accident on the Kumasi–Sunyani road on February 8, 2018 when she was returning to Accra from Sunyani.
Her friend, Franky Kuri, and a Military Man, Atsu Vondee, who is said to be her bodyguard on board a Jeep from Sunyani also died in the head-on collision with a VIP bus heading towards Sunyani from Kumasi.
The one week memorial service was held at St. Martins De Porres School, Dansoman on Sunday, February 18, 2018, and attended by people from all walk of life.
Ebony will be buried on March 17, 2018.
