The death is reported of Benjamin Isaac Hammond, a former defender of the erstwhile Gold Coast XI football team.
The late Hammond, popularly known as Papa Ansah, an ex-Police officer, died last week at Cape Coast after a protracted illness.
Papa Ansah, 86, started his football career with Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs in 1939 and captained the Gold Coast XI that played against the United Kingdom XI in the 1950s.
He is survived by six children. A family spokesperson, told GNA Sports on Wednesday that burial arrangements would be announced later.
