Malik Yakubu has won the 29th edition of the Accra Milo Marathon. He made a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and some 46 seconds.
He beat last year’s winner Kassim Mohammed of the Ghana Armed Forces who came in at second place. Yakubu also beat Mohammed’s last year record of 2 hours, 27 minutes.
Speaking to Kasapa Sports after he went past the finishing line, Yakubu attributed his win to hard work, adding “you can’t just sleep and say you want to do this.”
He was full of praise for Mohammed the runner up, saying he put in a lot of effort.
Mohammed subsequently told Kasapa Sports that he got his tactics all wrong.
This year’s marathon was themed “Every Champion Starts by Taking a Giant Step” and contested in two categories. The mass category, which started at the Nungua Police Barrier and ended at the Dansoman Keep Fit Club grounds, covered a distance of 42. 2km for adults and the 5km non-competitive Fun race.
