Italian Serie A club Catania say they will jump at the opportunity to sign Ghana captain Stephen Appiah if he can prove his fitness. Appiah has been without a club since leaving Fenerbahce over a year ago, but that could be set to change if Catania come calling.
Despite having had trials with such teams as Tottenham Hotspur and Rubin Kazan, Appiah has faced issues over the condition of his knee, with which he has a long-standing problem. Even though Catania have concerns over his fitness, Appiah has gone on to captain his country to qualify for the World Cup for the second successive time.
Catania general manager Pietro Lo Monaco is certain the 28-year-old still has the technical quality to succeed in Serie A."Appiah? Of course, if he's [physically] good we would buy him at once," Lo Monaco told Itasportpress.
"He would not only be a good signing for Catania, but I think he could still play for any of the other 19 teams in Serie A."I don't know how he is now and if he has overcome his physical problems but I can say with certainty that Appiah is a great talent."
