The Ghanaian football legend will follow the tournament in Egypt which kicks off on Thursday closer than ever with his son Dede Ayew set to captain the Ghana side.
Dede has had his problems lately after he was first deemed surplus to requirement at Olympique Marseille before failing a trial at Hertha Berlin. He has joined a French second division side now and Abedi is confident he will be in the right frame of mind for the tournament.
"I know he is committed to the task and that he wants to go there and deliver," he told TV3. "He wants to put everything behind him and play well and all will depend on how fit he will be. I have seen enough of him to believe he can do a job for the national team."
