In a damaging blow to Mohammed Bin Hammam, Africa�s football governing body football body Caf has given its backing to Sepp Blatter in the upcoming Fifa presidential elections.
Caf was expected to support the Qatari who has pledged that, if re-elected, he would give more power to the continental governing bodies.
The Asian football president, who was relying on Africa for most of his votes, was expecting massive backing from Caf but the executive committee voted otherwise.
Seeking a fourth term as president, the 75-year-old Blatter is standing against the Qatar national Bin Hammam.
The Fifa election is being held on 1 June in Zurich, Switzerland.
Caf is an influential body within Fifa�s structure, holding 53 of the 208 votes.
