Danny Welbeck, the Manchester United striker who rejected the chance to play for Ghana, has been rated as the worst attacker in the English Premier League.
Welbeck, who was born to Ghanaian parents in England, flatly turned down the approach to play for the Black Stars after being convinced by Sir Alex Ferguson to opt for England.
Now Sir Alex Ferguson has the Premier Leagues worst striker in terms of minutes per goal in his ranks. Welbeck, whose traditional Ghanaian name is Nii Tackie, has scored just once in the league all season.
The goal was a header for Uniteds fourth goal in Octobers 4-2 win over Stoke in 1204 minutes of football, the equivalent of 13 games.
Sportsmail ranked the top flights strikers by minutes per goal in Premier League matches, and England striker Welbeck tops the unfortunate list.
The Manchester United striker has scored only one league goal all seasonin 1204 minutes of football. And yet he is still picked ahead of forwards for whom goals come as naturally as blinking. The truth is that Welbeck is something of a conundrum. His energy is not in question. Nor is his passion to play.
But he is a sporadically-sublime player who is more regularly seen charging about the pitch. Welbeck grabbed Uniteds away goal in the first leg in that tie, but has found goals harder to come by on home soil.
Five of the ten most goal-shy strikers are English, with Carlton Cole, Danny Graham, Grant Holt and Peter Crouch all just in front of Welbeck. Danny Cole, the Nigerian who asked asked immigration officials in the UK to deport Ghanaians was also rated second worst striker!
