State owned Ghana National Petroleum Corporation has officially cancelled their sponsorship package for the Black Stars.
The Petroleum company was directed by government to withdraw their sponsorship deal to the Black Stars.
The Ghana National team (Black Stars) receives $3million every year as sponsorship money from GNPC.
However government have authorized the company to invest the said amount into education and technology.
The latest development means the Ghana Football Association will have to seek a new headline sponsor for the Black Stars team.
The situation leaves the Black Stars with just two sponsors (PUMA and UNIBANK) after rice master also withdrew their sponsorship package for the team.
GNPC have been sponsoring the senior National team for the past five years.

GNPC sponsorship was one of the ***barred word*** waste of money in Ghana. The first question is, why did they sponsor the blackstars. Are they Guinness or indomie. They enjoyed total monopoly in Ghana but they rather choose to waste such an amount on advertising. .
As a matter of Fact NDC will continue to be in Opposition even after the 8Years of NPP. Ndc never used their head to do the Right Thing . This is long overdue and my advise to NPP is that continue to use your HEAD.
Very good move by NPP govt. GNPC sponsoring the Black stars is one of the create, l00t and share schemes under the greedy, corrupt and incompetent John Mahama's NDC govt. $3M per year can be used to build classroom blocks or clinics for needy communities. Other private companies can sponsor the black stars and advertise their products.
I'm an NDC fanatic but I support this decision very much. GNPC needs to divert its Corporate social responsibility into education and technology as directed by the government. Too much money is been wasted on black stars. Is it football we will eat?
How on earth can an institution belonging to the state, that has monopoly over an industry, has the legal backing of the state in performing a specific function which is solely their preserve spend money to sponsor a football club. If this is not ***barred word*** I wonder what ***barred word*** would then look like. You are not competing with anybody, nobody is threatening your market share and yet you spend money to protect a market share of which you have the monopoly It is only under John Mahama that this ***barred word*** would occur.
This is the right move, sponsorship is to create awareness what does GNPC need awareness for? Their job does not involve selling anything they are supposed to help improve the petroluem industry in Ghana they should focus on that
