Javier Aguirre has been named as Egypt’s new coach for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ campaign.
Aguirre will succeed Argentine coach Hector Cuper who ended his relationship with Egypt after the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Egypt, who were hamstrung by an injury to superstar striker Mohamed Salah, suffered three defeats at Russia 2018.
Aguirre led his native Mexico to two World Cups – 2002 and 2010 – and also had a brief stint with Japan, but exited the role following a disappointing showing at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
Aguirre will be looking to lead the Pharaohs to successive World Cups for the first time.
