The chairman of the Ghana FA Normalization Committee has played down the Ȼ31,850 ($6,500) monthly allowance he receives from FIFA, claiming it falls far below what he is capable of earning.
Dr Kofi Amoah insists that the amount he receives can only be described as 'National Service' and he considers the job as a voluntary service he is delivering for the country.
The four-member caretaker committee has come under fire for the money its receives monthly as the amount is deducted from the Ghana FA annual remittance FIFA is supposed to send for the federation for football development.
The amount the chairman alone receives per month is nearly twice what each club would receive to play in the Special Competition that would last for four months which has sparked anxiety and anger in some quarters.
Each member of committee earns about $4000 a month with the president of the committee taking $6500 which will all come from the GFA coffers at FIFA.
But the astute and accomplished businessman insists the time he spends running the game would incur losses to his vast business empire as he is not working for Ghana football for financial gain.
“If it was because of money, I wouldn’t have accepted the job. I did it because it’s service to the nation,” Dr Kofi Amoah told Adom TV on Friday.
“I’m not bluffing but even $50,000 wouldn’t be enough,” he added.
While some have criticised the payment to the committee members as a drain to the coffers of the GFA others say those who work for the betterment of the game must be remunerated well.

If 31,000 cedis per month is national service, and you are so rich, why don't you donate it to charity that way we will all know you are really performing national service! Perhaps the govt or whoever appointed you should have advertised the position, instead of being hand picked and then turning around to tell us relatively low income country persons that 31k per month for a public service position that the amount is not sufficient! What gall!
It’s high time Ghanaians begin to understand that we are no in the 70s. I earn between on the average of £3000 a month as a truck driver in the UK. So what is $6,500 to Dr Amoah. I do not think those commenting negatively know him. Please let’s appreciate what he is doing.
This man will be sitting on a private company's board and will be paid per hour. His contribution is invaluable. We need to start appreciating BRAINS and stop worrying about money money money. Our whole president receives 30000ghc and even people complain. what at all is even wrong with us.
you're saying clubs don't pay their players well. you didn't see it as a priority to allow them play. they are not getting any income meanwhile every month you get paid. your monthly payment alone is more than the money you're giving to them to play a tournament. you're calling it a peanut, it's not a peanut for the club owners. the hypocrisy in Ghana is becoming too much. in every month when you're going for your allowance, do ask yourself how much the players too are going for?
@KK, wait till you build an astute career and get paid for $6500 before you call this man greedy. You poor and hungry people think because you are hungry, everyone should work for free or their deserved money should be given to you. This man has studied, built a career and therefore must be paid accordingly. Ghana needs his experience, he doesn't need Ghana.
Greedy idi.ot..., you will die with money ok
