GA West: Obeyeyie Community Elated Over MTN School Project

Folks of Obeyeyie, a community in the Amasamam Electoral Area in the Ga West Municipality were full of praise to MTN Ghana Foundation for constructing a 4-unit classroom block for the Anglican Basic School in the area. They described the situation as a timely intervention by the telecommunications giant which will go a long way to help better the lives of many in the area. The facility which has ancillary facilities including an office and a store-room to boast of was estimated at GHs 57, 781. Speaking in an interaction with Ghanadistricts.com, the assemblyman for the Amasaman Electoral Area, Abdellah Nortey indicated that the facility will help mitigate the high rate of absenteeism, school drop-outs, child labour and trafficking and host of other vices in the community. Without education we are doomed as a municipality and a nation as a whole, he noted. Mr. Nortey who was grateful to MTN Foundation for the honour done them, expressed optimism that the facility would also provide a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning. Meanwhile, Mrs. Nabilla Williams, Board Member of MTN Ghana Foundation during the commissioning of the project described education as the bedrock for development noting that provision of quality education needs a concerted effort by all stakeholders. We at MTN recognize this reality and that is why as a conscientious corporate organization we continue to support national efforts at bringing quality education closer to our communities, she added.
