STATEMENT: Mills And His Men Should Stop Playing With Our Education

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is hugely dissatisfied with the way the Government of the Professor John Evans Atta Mills-led-NDC-administration handles education in general in the country. The Union is unhappy with the way the functions of the Ministry of Education has been reduced to responding to issues affecting quality education in the country especially when there is an intended threat. The Ministry only works, when there is a threat of mass action. This is not right. If care is not taken, Upper East senior High Schools would be closed down tomorrow Friday, 16 March, 2012 by the Regional branch of CHASS as a result of the irresponsibility on the part of one of the major stakeholders in our educational sector Government. The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) stands with Upper East branch of CHASS in their call for re-imbursement by the Government but however, the Union would want to appeal to them to exercise some restraint in their intended closure of the Senior High Schools. The ramification of the closure of the senior High schools in the Upper East Region will be damaging to our desire to instill quality education in our country. The Union is by this statement calling on; Government to sit up and handle issues affecting our educational system with diligence and with immediate effect cause the re-imbursement of the schools in Upper East Region to be effected before we are immersed into a very unhealthy situation. CHASS Upper East branch to exercise some level of patience in the grand solving of this problem. Ministry of Education must also revised its functions and play its part since its missing in action. We also want to call on parents of students in our Upper East schools not to panic but rather give off a giant hope even as we bring sanity to bear. Thank you.
