STATEMENT: Ghana Environmental Journalists Association On World Water Day

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE GHANA ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION ON THE OCCASION OF WORLD WATER DAY. The World Water Day which is held every March 22 has much significance for the world and Ghana in particularly. It serves as a means to focus on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. The theme for this year is Water and Food Security: Call For Solutions, but the emerging trends all over the world including Ghana shows that much is not being done to protect our water bodies that are supposed to sustain our survival. The Ghana Environmental Journalists Association believes to make this years celebration meaningful especially in Ghana; steps must be taken by government and other agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency, to protect the environment within which these water bodies are situated. It appears the environment continues to be polluted and nothing seems to be done about it. Residents in various parts of the country keep polluting water bodies that are suppose to serve as source of water supply for Ghanaians. Such actions must be checked immediately by government to ensure that the water bodies are safe. Offenders must be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others. The association however wishes that Ghanaians access water on the occasion of world water day. For media interviews call the President Hannah Awadzi on 0244547980
