University Students Angry Over Students Loan Delay

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) local President of the University of Education Winneba, Kumasi Campus, Sulley Mohammed, has called for the abolishment of Students Loan if government cannot implement the policy. He said students on various campuses are highly disappointed in the government and the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) for the constant delay in disbursement of loan into accounts of beneficiaries, making it difficult for them to pay for their fees. But the Chief Executive Officer of the fund, Madam Kokui Adu has blamed the cause of the delay on the GETFUND, which she said is responsible for releasing the loan into the Student Loan Trust Fund. In an interview with Joy News on Wednesday, Sulley Mohammed said students are dissatisfied with the manner the loan is being handled. According to him, the students do not understand why monies expected to be used to pay for their fees are being delayed. He has, therefore advised the government to cancell the loan programme if it cannot abide by the rules and conditions governing it in making the loan accessible in time, so that beneficiaries can prepare themselves from their various homes before stepping on campus. This will avoid any inconveniences and save students from embarrassment, especially from school authorities, he said.
