VIDEO: Kennedy Agyapong's Court Appearance

The embattled Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong, appeared in court yesterday, April 18 for his treason trial to begin. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker has been in the grips of the law enforcement agencies since Monday and a move to have him released on bail on Wednesday hit a snag. The opposition firebrand is being held in Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) cells over comments he made on an Accra-based radio station, Oman FM which have been described by many as inflammatory. The magistrate, Patricia Quansah, who was supposed to handle the case, however, declined to proceed stating her jurisdiction does not extend to cases of such magnitude. The beleaguered MP was left idle and confused in the courtroom and was later whisked to the BNI, where he has spent the last three days. Currently, there are uncertainties as to which courts are appropriate to hear Mr. Agyapongs case.
