The Ghana Education Service, (GES) has ordered all heads of Senior High Schools in the Northern part of the country to immediately reopen their schools and resume academic work.
The order follows the refusal of the heads to reopen until feeding grants for the second term are released by the government.
Senior High Schools, (SHS) in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions of Ghana say they will find it difficult to run their academic programmes this year because the schools in the regions have not yet had their feeding grants for this academic year.
But, the deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Charles Aheto Tsegah in an interview with RADIO XYZ 93.1 FM said the decision of the head teachers is not justified.
According to him, the GES is aware that schools have delayed reopening but it is very unfortunate the action taken by the heads of those schools.
�We have actually called the three presidents of the regional CHASS and told them that their action is improper and in appropriate� he noted.
Mr Aheto Tsegah added �they have already been informed that the amount has been released by government and that it has to go through banking process so that the monies will now be released to the schools and then they go out of their way to say that they will not reopen, we find that very very unacceptable.�
Meanwhile, some heads of schools in the Northern part of the country say they will abide by the GES directive while efforts are made to pay their feeding grants.
President of CHASS for the Upper East region Patrick Atanwire said they are not really enthused by the posture of the GES.
