America Showers Praises On Mills, Others

The American government has expressed its profound admiration of the leadership style of President John Evans Atta Mills and some of his colleagues attending the 38th G8 Summit in tackling food insecurity and malnutrition in their respective countries. The other three leaders were Jekaya Kikwete of Tanzania, AU Chairman and Benin President Thomas Yayi Boni and Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia. Applauding their exemplary leadership skills at a reception in honour of the four African leaders in the United States, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton described them as bold leaders who the Obama administration, together with the private sector, would want to support to reduce global hunger and poverty. �These gentlemen are here because they understand the opportunity that is being presented; they have a true partnership, a global partnership around the ending of food insecurity, hunger and malnutrition.� President Obama at the opening of the summit last Friday at Washington DC announced that over 45 companies had committed to invest over US$3 billion in Africa's agricultural sector as part of the G8's New Alliance for Food and Nutrition Security initiative The commitments were developed in collaboration with Grow Africa, an innovative partnership led by the World Economic Forum, the African Union and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).
