Illegal miner remanded for possessing firearm

The circuit court at Tarkwa has remanded an illegal miner, Adams Sabo, into police custody for possessing a local manufactured pistol without authority. He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear before court on June 14. Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, a farmer, lived in the same vicinity at Esuaso near Tarkwa with the accused person. The prosecution said on June 2 at about 1130 hours, the accused went to the complainant's house and ask of her husband, who had gone out. Chief Insp. Amponsah said the accused informed the complainant that he wanted to sell gold to the husband, and promised to come back. The prosecution said around 1200 hours when the complainant was in her room alone, she heard a knock on her door and suddenly the accused entered the room and pointed a local manufactured pistol at her. Chief Insp. Amponsah said the complainant raised the alarm, and the accused took to his heel, but he was apprehended by some neighbours and handed over to the police together with the pistol that was retrieved from his pocket.
