Ashanti Gold on Sunday qualified for the semi-finals of the MTN/FA competition by beating Accra Hearts of Oak 5-4 on penalties in an exciting quarter-final match at the Obuasi Lenclay Sports Stadium. Ashgold scored first in the 51st minute of the regulation time through Yakubu Mohammed while Atakora Gyimah equalised for Hearts in the 77th minute. Bernard Akuffo restored Ashgold lead in the 12th minute of the extra-time and when everything looked certain for Ashgold, Hearts Atakora Gyimah again leveled up the game in the dying minutes to send the game into the penalty shootout. With the game ending in a draw at the end of the regulation and extra-time, the resultant penalty shootout saw Ashgold scoring all their turns with Hearts Samuel Ndzemaba missing his turn.
