Chief Imam Storms Troubled Hohoe

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, is in Hohoe to help broker peace between irate Muslim youth and the youth of the township following clashes between the two on Monday. Two people died from gunshot wounds in the melee that erupted after the body of an Imam, Alhaji Alhassan, was exhumed on the alleged orders of Togbe Gabusu, the paramount chief of the Gbi Traditional Area. The chief�s car was set ablaze and his palace vandalised in the process. Citifmonline.com understands Sheikh Sharubutu, who has been calling for peace prior to his departure, is meeting the leadership of the feuding factions to allow peace take its course. A dusk to dawn curfew has been imposed on Hohoe with a lot more police and military personnel moving to the township to maintain peace. The Volta Regional Minister, Henry Ford Kamel, has assured the situation is under control.
