Kofi Adams Pooh-poohs FEC Decision To Extend Suspension

Suspended General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has spurned at the decision by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party to extend the suspension imposed on him by an additional one month. The FEC has allegedly written a letter to Mr. Adams informing him of its decision to extend his suspension for another month. Mr. Adams was suspended for three months after a leaked recording with a voice purported to be his, was heard in a discussion with a dye-in-the-wool NPP activist and Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko saying he will do everything possible to prevent President John Mills from securing the mandate of Ghanaians for a second term in the December 7, General Elections. On the tape, the man who sounded like Mr. Adams expressed his frustration at the defeat of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, wife of former President Rawlings who contested against President Mills. The party, following the revelation, directed the Disciplinary Committee to commence investigations into the matter but Mr. Adams has consistently maintained his innocence. The party executives also gave the indication that he will only be reinstated after he has been cleared in a full scale investigation being conducted by the Disciplinary Committee of the NDC. Not enthused by the action taken against him, Kofi Adams, who also doubles as the Spokesperson of the Rawlingses, dragged the party to court after his suspension was announced. However, in May, an Accra High Court directed Mr. Adams and the party to settle the matter out of court and resort to an alternative dispute resolution. But before the Disciplinary Committee could present its report, the FEC has written to Mr. Adams, informing him of its decision to extend his suspension for another month.
